Help! lots of faves no buyers

Is 338 faves to 15 sales a bad conversion rate? I'm trying to work out why... Is it price? Is it distance - NZ is too far away? Are my products something people admire but wouldn't wear? any other ideas? please help I can't see the problem I'm too close to it...

Price. Not many people have hundreds of dollars to spend on jewelry. I would work on increasing the number of under $30 choices. Your jewelry is unique and will attract a certain buyer, just takes time to find them.

I do have some less expensive items, maybe I should feature some. I can't really lower the price of the more expensive items - especially my trees because of the sheer amount of labour cost in them, I am thinking of lowering the price of the dragons though... Is $40 too much for a dragon?

I think even if you lowered some of your prices, which you shouldn't, that wouldn't increase sales a tremendous amount. Your pieces are very specialized, so you will really need to do a lot of outside promotion to your target market to get the right buyers looking at your stuff.

Analyze the views you are getting. Take a close look at your stats and see where your traffic sources are and what keywords they are using to find you. It can help you see if there is a gap with how you are marketing your listings.

Re: Help! lots of faves no buyers

Thank you breedingfancy, I agree with not lowering my prices - I only mentioned the dragons because they're the only product I have any room to move on.
Your specialized point is a good one, I forget that they're pretty way-out because I'm staring at them all day - I've gotten used to them ;)
That brings me to a dilemma with keywords - not many people are going to be searching for a 'salmon fish pendant' but I can see a sport fisher loving it for a present for his lady or for herself (and I know that a decent percentage of that market has deep pockets) but its not the sort of thing they'll be searching for, yet I feel dishonest using keywords that are so loosely related like 'fly fishing'...

Re: Help! lots of faves no buyers

I've come to realize that there are two types of shoppers on Etsy: those who favorite and those who buy. Very rarely does a favoriter become a buyer in my shop- so you're not alone on that front.

I wouldn't lower your prices, but could you offer more different products in the lower price range? Maybe build up some new products to offer in that line? Could you make a cheaper version of your most popular items, maybe from different materials, with less labor, not as ornate?

The other thing I noticed about your prices is that they look pretty variable when converted to US dollars. Most Etsy sellers are priced at whole Dollars, or $1.99, so seeing your pricing all over the place is mysterious. In stores when we see things that are marked $123.23, it's usually on sale or clearance. Maybe experiment with having your pricing in round $ for US buyers, just to see if that makes any difference.

Try different tags and see if that makes a difference in views. I've been experimenting with different titles and that's really expanded my reach. Just play around and call it market research.

Re: Help! lots of faves no buyers

You have a huge number of wasted tags (tags that are single words, or repeats)

All of your measurements (that I have seen) are in mm or cm; most Americans have little idea what those measurements mean.

I would not tag the dragons with trademarked franchises but that is up to you; regardless, since you've identified people who like those franchises as your target market, have you figured out how to advertise to them directly?

Re: Help! lots of faves no buyers

Thanks Matthew and Sara, I was about to deny that all my measurements were metric till I went back to my shop and looked at the first three and found that they were indeed older products that I hadn't put Imperial measurements on... I'll make an effort to check everything. (even though I struggle with fractions of inches - millimetres are so much easier!)

hah, I feel the same way. I haven't put in cm measurement options (though we do them custom), just because it's so hard!

Re: Help! lots of faves no buyers

I don't see your pricing as a problem at all. I've found that the key to any successful business is reaching your target market.

Your target customer is NOT the person who is looking for inexpensive jewellery but rather the person who is willing to spend a bit more for a keepsake piece. So you need to be marketing to THAT customer.

Personally I wouldn't change the prices on your dragons at all but I would update the photos so that the first image actually looks like a dragon. Had you not mentioned them in your post, I would never have realized that you had dragons in your shop by looking at the photos.
