Google Analytics help

I've tried twice to set up the analytics for the Etsy shop and it simply won't work! We have it set for 2 of our other sites and have no problem at all. But for Etsy we keep getting that annoying little yellow triangle with the exclamation point just below our status which means it's not collecting any data and isn't working.

Any suggestions? This is getting frustrating!

Glad you asked.... I'm having a heckuva time too & getting the same thing you are. Under website profiles it says www.etsy.com Should it have my shop address there? If so, how do I do that? aargh.

I tried putting my shop in place of etsy.com and kept getting an "invalid" message.

I guess it's a case of "if at first you don't succeed, try, try again." And then pull your hair out! :-)

Having seen this thread earlier I thought I would give it a try......sounds like a good idea!!!! I too have a yellow triangle!!!! But I am going to give it the 24 hours it suggests and then will attack again.

Tried looking at the u-tube vide for help but that confused me more!!

Here is the Etsy help article (important parts copied below), I just set mine up three days ago and it is working.

Key points, 1. use the exact URLs as they are written below, just copy and pasting the URL from your site won't work. 2. Important to finish step 2, or no data will be gathered. 3. write down the ID number UA-XXXXXXX-X as soon as you see it - I thought it was hard to find later (once I went past the webpage with the ID).

Step 1: Getting Set Up

To create a new Google Analytics account, visit http://www.google.com/analytics/

Here are some helpful hints during signup:

When asked for your Website's URL enter Etsy's URL (www.etsy.com)
When asked for your Account Name enter your Etsy shop website address (shopname.etsy.com)
Hit Continue when you arrive at the page titled Analytics: Tracking Instructions
Once you arrive on your account overview page, locate the tracking code which appears to the right of your shop website address. It will appear in this format: UA-XXXXXXX-X.

If you already have a Google Analytics account you can instead login, click on Analytics Settings, and then choose Enter New Profile.


Step 2: Enter Web Property ID

Then you can enable this feature by going to Your Account > Options > Web Analytics. Enter your Google Analytics Web Property ID in this format: UA-XXXXXXX-X. Click Save.

You should be all set. To view your Analytics, you must sign in to your Google Analytics account. Since Google Analytics works on a delay, you may not see data in your reports for up to 24 hours.

question - when you enter your account name (etsy shop web address) do you put the www. in it or just the shopname.etsy.com?

Since your website use can mess up your site's analysis results, I found this explanation on how to not track your computer IP address. (I haven't tried this yet).

Just checked the google support info and they say that sometimes when you copy and paste your tracking code spaces appear between the parenthasis marks. So I went back to etsy - options - and made sure there were no spaces and there you go!!! My annoying yellow triangle was replaced by a green tick.....worth a go if you are still having problems. x

Regarding my earlier post,....about wanting to exclude me from my website's google analytics data, since no one spends more time on my site than I do :)

So, I just did this...here are my notes mixed in with the google instructions...

To exclude by IP address:

On your Google analytics page, on the top right, click “my account”

Click on Analytics (under “my products”)

On the lower right you should see “filter manager”…

1. Click Filter Manager from the Analytics Settings page

You will likely have no filters, click on “+ Add Filter”

2. Enter a Filter Name for this filter

Call filter: my IP address (or what ever you want)

3. From the Filter Type drop-down list, select Exclude all traffic from an IP address

Under filter type there are three drop downs
Should say:
exclude
traffic from IP address
that are equal to

4. The IP address field will auto-populate with an example IP address. Enter the correct value. Remember to use regular expressions when entering any IP address. (I didn't quite understand this part, it sounds like you need slashes, but I couldn't put slashes in, weird, so did as stated below...feel free to comment on this if you are in the know).

Put in your IP address in the 4 windows given with no slashes, spaces or dots.

Under Apply filter to webpage profiles, highlight the website profile and click add.

Then save changes.

Hopefully it is now working.

I'm going to try it again tomorrow. Can't figure out how it's working for the other 2 sites, but not this one! The quest continues...

But I'm glad the rest of you got everything going. Yaaaay! May I soon be doing a happy dance, too. :-)
