Good question

At least, I think it's a good question! What do you do about an item that you've had listed for a long time? Do you just 'let it be' OR do you lower the price? (Or do you just set it aside & hope that it sells at a craft show?) I'm really curious about your answers. Thanks!

Re: Good question

I leave them - I've sold stuff two years or more after I first listed here on Etsy. Sometimes, I do pull old items apart for their parts, though, and rework them. And I very rarely lower prices - if it hasn't sold, I'm more likely to cannibalize it and reuse the pieces.

Re: Good question

Sometimes I reduce the price. Sometimes I let the listing expire and accept that it wasn't desirable. Some of the things I made a long time ago end up in the bin :(

Re: Good question

I leave them be. But they're also my go-to products for giveaways, free gifts, or extra things as an apology for when i really screw up an order.

Re: Good question

Haha, Shana--good thinking. I like the idea of keeping them for future giveaways or free gifts.

Erin...yes!! I completely forgot to mention that. I DO take apart 'old' pieces that are gathering dust....as styles change, my tastes change & my skills improve. Thanks for mentioning that!!

Re: Good question

I handpaint ornaments. I struggle with this all the time. Some of my older designs just weren't that popular (and I'm MUCH better at what I do now!)...so I end up giving them away - like to Good Will / Sal Army. Maybe someone will like them. I've never had any luck with sales. Last holiday season I had a shop section entitled "sales" with ornaments at a significant discount...I don't think I sold any.

If anyone else has ideas on where to donate these types of things, I would love to hear it!

Re: Good question

Some things sell better in certain seasons and I have them on hold till then. Some really need picture/tags/title/shipping/price rework and then I relist them. I'm a fairly new shop and some of the first listings got overlooked as I learned new things. I have a few things in limbo that I'm not sure what to do with yet.

Re: Good question

I'm with Shana; if cards are collecting dust, they wind up being donated to a raffle table at a craft show. Seasonal ones I just let the listings expire and relist when that holiday rolls around again, and ones that just didn't go...well, I let the listing expire and they wind up being toted around to shows until they sell or I get sick of them! LOL

Re: Good question

I try my best to "give back" as much as possible ... especially when it involves either someone I know personally, a local charity or just one that is near & dear to my heart, like the Lupus Foundation. I need to always remember that someone will appreciate these "older" items. They don't know (nor do they care) that this was a design from last year. So what, right?!?! Somehow, I usually end up making something REALLY nice when I take apart an older piece. It's certainly cheaper than buying more & more beads -- I already have enough destash!! OH...and that reminds me...there's always that option, too. Taking it apart and selling the parts (beads) as destash.

Re: Good question

I renew my items. They come up in the searches all fresh and new, near the beginning when someone searches for an item.
