Getting Feedback on Sold Items

Hi everyone!

I had made 3 sales in the past 2 weeks but have only received 1 feedback on an item sold. What are some good ways to ask for feedback?

Thanks!

Congrats!

Some people find it helps to put a link to the feedback section in their message to buyer so they're aware it exists (many first time buyers are not). Others include a message in the actual package written on a thank you card or the back of their business card that mentions how much they appreciate feedback.

Re: Getting Feedback on Sold Items

I ask 3 times.....once after they place the order.....once when it has shipped I send them a message....and also when I pack their item up...I write a personal note and encourage them to do so because...I say, and it is true...."what you say will have more of an influence on a buyer than anything I could tell them, it will either steer them clear away so they don't take a RISK on me or help them make a decision to buy from my shop because you had a wonderful experience."....not everyone leaves feedback, but 3 times should stick in their head.

Good luck!

About 1 in 3 is average. Not everyone will leave feedback. And potential buyers won't be looking for a match between your sales and your feedback. They just want to see positive feedback.

Re: Getting Feedback on Sold Items

Getting new Etsy users to leave feedback has really been a thorn in my side...Most of my customers have been brand new to etsy and first time buyers. I have 48 sales and only 6 feedback! I have had no complaints so I can only assume they're happy campers...At first I was shy about coming out and asking for feedback but I'm realizing now that it's going to be necessary because Etsy doesn't really make leaving feedback very intuitive or obvious. It's partly a relief that Etsy isn't feedback mongers like Ebay...but a little prodding on their part would be nice.

so ANYWAY please keep the suggestions coming

OH I forgot to ask, do you guys think it's appropriate to solicit feedback after the item has been shipped? If so, how long after?

Re: Getting Feedback on Sold Items

Thank you everyone for the feedback! :O) I do find it frustrating that I don't receive emails regarding this discussion even though I have the discussion marked.

@ Vanessa I've been looking how to link to the feedback section. :(

@Cathy I always include a note card with feedback instructions and hand signed by yours truly. :) What's more frustrating is when an Etsy Seller buys something and doesn't leave feedback. They definitely know how to leave feed back. :(

@Adyan True. Hoping the last sale leaves feedback.

@Alexis I always send a message for feedback after the item has shipped. Just a pleasant reminder.

Re: Getting Feedback on Sold Items

I think something being mentioned once is ok, if done in a business like way. I mention it in confirmation emails to international customers, because it's kind of a way for them to confirm they got the item.

I got a note in a package that read something like please leave your positive feedback here (with a link written) and that just rubbed me the wrong way, like all they wanted was praise and you better not have any other comments.

And I'm sorry, but if I got THREE notes asking for feedback, I'd probably be a little annoyed. But that's me. (but it looks like her method works for her)

If they don't leave feedback, they don't. I don't get bothered by it. I hear less than half is a fairly common ratio.

Re: Getting Feedback on Sold Items

Less than half is normal but I don't know why. So I certainly wouldn't be afraid to buy from someone who had 1/3 to1/2 positive feedback ratio. When I see shops with a really low ratio I can't help but wonder what's up with that.

Re: Getting Feedback on Sold Items

I also don't worry if it's only been a couple of weeks because sometimes I have found people come back and leave feedback weeks later.

Re: Getting Feedback on Sold Items

@Erica Yea I agree. I think that is a bit pretentious that someone would say leave positive feedback. I usually do a note with the product and 1 message in case they forgot.

@Sherri That is true. I have had that on my other shop as well.

Re: Getting Feedback on Sold Items

sometimes people wait a long time before they leave feedback, if at all.

I'd try not to worry - it's better to have one great feedback than three neutrals or even negatives!

it just comes in time; I never ask for feedback - if someone mentioned it three times during the transaction I think I'd find that a bit over the top - though I guess it depends HOW you phrase it without sounding pushy...

Re: Getting Feedback on Sold Items

Thanks everyone. I'm not going to stress about feedback anymore. I'll point that energy into something positive, like coming up with new ideas for products.

:O)

Happy Weekend!

Re: Getting Feedback on Sold Items

Once you have racked up a number of positive feedback comments, it's not necessary to worry about more. New customers just want to get a feel that you are a solid seller with satisfied customers. I get about 30-35% of my customers who leave feedback.

I never go out of my way to solicit feedback. I have, however, included the following in my automated message to buyers:

"If you are pleased with your order, please share your experience with others by leaving feedback. (You can leave feedback by logging into Etsy, clicking on the "your account" menu at the top right of the page, and clicking on "feedback.")"

As a customer, I do NOT want to be contacted, begged, or reminded about providing feedback. Sometimes I leave it, sometimes I don't. It just depends on how I feel, how busy I am, if I feel it's worth the trouble, etc. It doesn't mean I don't like something if I don't leave feedback.
