Hi Team,

Many of you have already heard – Etsy search now defaults by relevancy. HeyMichelle and I are working on a blog post to help you get the most out of this change. In addition to this great post by Natalie, "Putting Your Shop on Top : Etsy’s Most Relevant Search"
http://www.etsy.com/blog/en/2011/putting-your-shop-on-top-etsy%E2%80%99s-most-relevant-search/

Michelle and I will select a few of you to use as real life examples to explain how you can best optimize your search position. Let us know if you think you need help below – and tell us a bit about how you're already worked to optimize your shop with the tips above, so we can see what is and isn't working for you!

I'll pop back in this thread to let you know when we have enough submissions and when the blog post will go live!

Best,
Danielle

I think I need a little help.

I'm just not getting as many views as I had in the beginning (2007).

I've used a few tips from your "Most Relevant Search" post:
I've made sure all my titles have key words that describe each listing.
I try to relist or just list once a week at the least.
I use all available tags but i'm not sure I'm using them to the best of my ability.

I haven't started using the "style" tags since I'm not sure where my stuff fits in.
Thanks a ton for the help!

I'm super interested as well as confused by this relevancy thing and would welcome some help! I sell vintage, with an emphasis on old working cameras. And so do a whole bunch of other people! I'm including what seems like the most relevant words and tags in my listings, but I'm not sure if they are making the most impact, especially since it seems like we are all using the same tags and titles...

Hello,

After learning about relevancy searches, I spent some time studying my shop stats and then reviewing my tags. I am in the process of updating a lot of tags on items because I didn't have some of the basic keywords represented there. I got some good general tips from Danielle's session at CCE this past weekend, but I would love some feedback on my shop!

i sell mostly hand dyed yarn, fiber and knitting notions. For the fiber and yarn especially I would like to have everything tagged appropriately since there are many similar items on etsy, and having a good search result is important to me for those items!

I have a question that might help others as well.

I like to give each new style a name. It makes it easier to keep track of orders but also easier to organize bookeeping/pattern storage/ wholesale orders. However this doesn't help me in the relevency seach. How would you suggest I set-up my titles to keep the style name but to stay relevant as well.

Thanks

Re: Get a Relevant Makeover

I just finished re-working a lot of my titles to ensure that the most relevant words were up front. I also tried using the shop stats to ensure that the key words most frequently searched are those that I have included in my titles.

My tags are quite relevant already (I hope - I think!), so haven't done much to them.

Just did a few test searches and I do seem to be "relevant" in some searches, but not others. I would like to be relevant in every way!

I would like some suggestions on how to make other aspects of my shop more relevant - may have to rethink my shop announcement and SEO in general.

I would love a makeover! I know more than anything I need photos, with the clothing on. This is not always easy, so I would love to know how to photograph without a model, but still have them draw people into my shop.
I have been working on tags, descriptions and titles, and am not sure I get it yet. The keywords are not always relevant on google analytics, actually they are never relevant. Craftopolis has helped, I just wonder if there is anything that may be obvious. I seem to be invisible, and I am not sure if it's the time of year or I am not using the right tools.

I would love some help! I've been working on my listing titles and tags (I've found the new Shop Stats very helpful) but still feel I'm falling short. I think I have a handle on what to do, but would really appreciate a professional eye giving my shop the once-over. Please!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Adding here... With my titles I'm really focusing on the first three words. I'm looking at both my Shop Stats and Google Keywords to see which combinations of words are most frequently used, and then trying those out. I know that repetition is key so I'm starting to use the keywords from my titles in my item descriptions as well.

Danielle,

I would love to have the opportunity to learn from the masters. I have already updated my titles to be more descriptive in the first few words as well as tagged my items with more descriptive words. I also use the handy Etsy merchandise desk post monthly to update them to be relevant with any trends that my items fall into.

I have also began to renew more often and noticed an increase in sales. However I feel that I still haven't grasped the concepts that well and could do better. I really want to take my shop full time and get away from my "day" job.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Best Regards,

Heather

Aug 20 will be my one year etsy anniversary. I love it here! I've added words, subtracted words, changed titles, tags, photos, sections, proflle, shop announcement..

I've been featured in over 400 treasuries, been in treasuries that hit the FP, have had 158 sales, so I feel like I'm being 'seen'......

I'd like to think one day I will have 'nailed' it. that I have that perfect formula. would love some insight as to whether I am heading in the right direction!

I would love some help with this! I have spent hours trying to improve my titles and tags and in July it really paid off for me in terms of views/sales/hearts, etc. I feel like I will be starting over again and I am up for the challenge- at least I think.
To help with relevancy I have:
1) Updated title wording to include words in the exact order that my shop stats show people searching for most often
2)Changing tags to have word pairs that are commonly searched for rather than words individually- thought I still need help and clarification on this one- don't want to break rules with lengthy tags and need help understanding how to make this work
3)Looked at the top few shops showing up in relevancy using search terms I would use if looking for an item I sell. Used some of the ideas in their titles and tags to improve mine.

I'd love to be chosen for this opportunity!

I would love a make-over on becoming relevant.

So many of my products have similar names and attributes, so I don't know if I should mix it up a little or keep it consistent. Should I call it, "Silver Hammered Wide Ring","Hammered Silver Wide Ring","Wide Silver Hammered Ring", or "Ring Silver Hammered Wide?" If the first words are given more weight, should it be the last one, or do the categories take care of that?

Re: Get a Relevant Makeover

I can use all the help I can get! I've had my shop open since June 18th without a single sale.
Since the relevancy changes have been going into effect, I've been:

1. Changing my Titles to have most important words first.

2. I've been working like crazy in the studio so that I can have enough inventory to start listing items more frequently but haven't quite gotten there yet. Right now I'm only listing one or two items per week.

3. I've been updating my tags to two-word tags, trying to keep searchers in mind when coming up with them. And I've been using stats to inform the changes I've been making.

My changes have resulted in a few selections for Treasuries, but not much else, yet.

Please help!

I've been open for 6 months and feel like the only sales I've gotten were from friends and family. I am at a loss as to how to get "strangers" to buy.

I've been working really hard on my photos, even made my own photo white box. I've been trying to use all 13 tags and although my views have gone up a bit, still no sales.

Please help!

hi danielle,

i have been tenacious in optimizing my shop...sunk my teeth in like a bulldog...but it's still not yielding any real results.

i've emailed team members for advice...
i'm joining teams and posting and posting and posting...
constantly revisting my listing titles to make sure the most relevant and accurately descriptive words are there and at the beginning...
posting new items...
blogging new items...
tumbling new items...
pinning new items...
tweeting new items...
was featured in a fellow etsian's blog...
creating treasuries...
adding categories...
matching up the words in titles, tags, and content for seo...
fine tuning my profile...
creating treasuries...
and reviewing my shop stats and google analytics...

i'm sure there's more, but i've fried my brain over-thinking this. i'd ask my husband what else i've done, but i've talked his ear off :)

i would be very grateful for your help.

Re: Get a Relevant Makeover

Hi,

I'm a new member, have been on Etsy since May 2011. I'm trying to follow tips on optimization of my item's titles and tags, and I think my titles are clear and descriptive, but my shop still has very low views. According to the shop stats, not many people use my keywords when they search for the items similar to mine.

I check my shop stats and Google Analytics every day, and find them helpful in terms of where the traffic comes from. Since most traffic comes from Etsy search, I do need to learn what keywords to use to be successful. Where do I find statistics on keywords use?

I'd love the experts to take a peek and tell me what am I doing wrong.

Thank you,

Tanya

I have tried to take pictures, use coupon codes, features and add info to my appearance announcing new items. Although people have "favored" some of my items I am not getting traffic. I need help for JJZG and JJZG2!

Thank you
