I started it thinking it would be part-time. I guess techinically it is although it doesn't feel like it! I have a full time job as well as going to school and having a small photography business on the side. I'd say I spend about 6 hours every night working on my hair accessories. Life is crazy, but i LOVE doing it!
Between etsy and my blog it feels like a full time job, but it is part time for me. I do not even make enough money doing this to even consider quitting my job. I am a full time Clinical Office Specialist in a Family Practice.
Part Time although I am always covered in paint and clay as I am a full time art teacher. So I can't complain that much as I never really leave the art scene.
Love to one day make my craft and Etsy full time!!!
Good luck to all who dream of crafting full time we can do it!!!
Its supposed to be part time, but it seems to have taken over my life, sewing, knitting, chatting, oh and checking stats seems to have become an addiction. Im quite new, started in feb so I havent sold much yet, but i am ever hopeful
Part-time. I'm a college student working on campus 12 hours a week with 15 credit hours. Probably will always be a part-time thing since I'm going to be a teacher. Then again, I think it's quite difficult to work part time with a jewelry shop because there's so much competition.
I guess I am a full time Etsian, I'm always working on new product lines, new photos, new tags and descriptions. I also work on blog posts to help my shop out. Although, I'm not quite there sales wise, but I'm hoping with all the time and hard work will pay off soon.
Part time, tho I spend more time working on my Etsy than my other part time job=) There is always something to add, change, work on....And, always a new idea to create and put together. Great thread, best wishes to all!
Part time for me. I am a full time student and I work 25 hours a week as a receptionist. I was working full time but decided to go to part time because I wanted more time to create for my shop. My boyfriend is more full time, but I wouldn't say he's full time etsy, more full time artist and then I put the stuff on etsy for him. Our shop is a collaborative but really its my baby. =)
Part time for me (unfortunately it shows in my shop as I just don't have enough time/energy) as day job is an executive assistant for a CFO. I'm also writing a novel on the side too. Never a dull moment.
I'm definitely a part-time Etsian, though I wish it were otherwise. I'm technically a full-time law student, but I often seem to forget that when I start crafting (Exams? What exams?)
I see lots of interesting stories behind being full-time/part-time. Sarah..i think we both sail on the same boat. My situation is almost similar to yours. I hardly sleep 6 - 7 hrs a day. And rest of the hours I work like a horse ! Sigh !
i used to be part time very parttime only adding and checking at least once a month but as of a month ago i went full time i lost my job of 22 years so i am improving on my shop and upgrading on what i have to offer for sale if i could make a living out of my craft i would it has always been a dream hope it becomes real
Jaya, thanks for starting this thread - I have learned not only that A LOT of us are doing etsy part-time, but also that quite a number are students like me. (I am studying gerontology.) It is impressive to see how hard people work in order to do something that fulfills them, but it also shows me that I don't have to feel so apologetic about not doing etsy 'seriously enough'. I guess we are all doing what we can, and it is inspiring to see what some can create in their off-hours!
Part-time for me as well. I love creating my jewelry! I wish I had more time to do so sometimes. I work full time as program coordinator for a cell phone supply chain solutions company. I enjoy my job, but love creating! I always say I work a job and a half at least. Not to mention taking care of my family as my husband works 12 hour shifts, 3 on/2 off. I wish I could at least have 3 day weekends.
Part-time. I am a homeschooling mom of a 6 and 4 year old. I love to make, so this is my outlet, and whatever extra money helps. My husband works in another state, a 10 hour commute! So, we spend a couple weeks at home, then we all (my husband, me, and boys) go to his job for a few weeks. We live in an entertainer's bus when we travel, so there is enough room for my yarn:)
Part time. Full time job is in an accounting firm. Went to art school in the 90s, so life happens (: Glad to be selling my work in this little shop and local, too. Hope to transition into making art more full time within the next years. Baby steps and changes happen every day...so inching forward in life!
Part-time for me, I want to increase the viability of my shop but I have no intention of going full-time. I work 3 "jobs" besides Etsy - I'm a freelance costume designer for theater & performance arts, but since that's just freelance and not full-time work I also work part-time as a medical office manager AND do engraving work out of my home for a local business. My goal this year is for the income I get from Etsy to replace the engraving income, since I'm sick and tired of it! :)
Part-time, but I would love it to be full-time one day. I'm newly married, so I'm thinking that when we decide to have kids this would be a great way to HOPEFULLY be a stay home mom & still make money. Until then I also have a full-time job (which is why I can't do as much for my shop as I'd like). I'm am hooked on checking my stats all day long though! I craft when I get home (on thurs & friday mostly) and a lot of the day sat. Darn job doesn't give me enough time & energy! hahaha
