What do you include when you ship?

Which do you think is best, something small that you make or goodies from other shops? Or both?

I'm thinking I may recycle some broken vintage necklaces into earrings and include them in my packages. My packaging is lovely, but I need to add a little more pizazz to my shipments.

Re: Freebies in the package?

I haven't had the chance to include anything yet, as I have not yet made a sale, but so far the only thing I've considered is including a discount code for a future purchase in a thank you note. I sale paintings/drawings, so I can't really think of anything else I could really include, unless I made a little ACEO or something. Any other ideas, or thoughts on that?

Re: Freebies in the package?

I've worked on making my packaging attractive, but don't give out freebies. Sometimes when I get freebies as a buyer I'm not entirely thrilled. It just means I've added more unusable stuff to my collection, lol.

Re: Freebies in the package?

I include an anti tarnish bag for the customers to store the jewelry they bought. In the past, I made a simple ear cuff and included it with each order, but I no longer have time to do that.

Re: Freebies in the package?

I do not add freebies to my orders.

I am curious though- Brassy Deb, Whatever became of the company using your image to sell their product? I remember that thread from a while ago... :)

Re: Freebies in the package?

I wrap my purses in pink tissue paper an tie with jute in a bow.

I do include a freebie.
Either small rose stud earrings or a rose hair grip. (I have seen these for sale in few Etsy shops). They are inserted/or gripped to a small Moo card (mini business card) and placed inside the package.

Some people mention it - others don't. I did have someone tell me that the free earrings had made their day - so that was nice to hear! :-)

Re: Freebies in the package?

I always include a coupon code specifically for that customer for 10% off or free shipping, and sometimes I make some earrings to match the piece they purchased if I have the materials left over!

Re: Freebies in the package?

Depends on the value of the order. I just include a card for small orders but I include free beads with larger orders.

Re: Freebies in the package?

I'll be including freebies with my orders. I have so many scraps of fabric left over from the items I sew for babies, so I can make small items such as taggie squares or small stuffed animals for babies to chew on. If folks are purchasing something from my shop, it's safe to assume they are buying it for their baby, or for someone who has or is having a baby. And the only thing it costs me is a little bit of time to sew it all together, which isn't much at all. I think freebies are great if they are related to what you are selling! That along with a thank you note and great packaging will make people remember you and how much you appreciate their business. :)

Re: Freebies in the package?

I include a little something depending on what was bought but the minimum I send is a little pair of key earrings.
I also send pin buttons/badges etc sometimes that I have had custom made but that dont obviously advertise my shop (the name is on the back)

Re: Freebies in the package?

My freebies are the handmade (by me) boxes my items come in.
Each is one of a kind and can be reused. :)

Re: Freebies in the package?

I don't include freebies because when I receive them I usually never use them and they shit somewhere around.

I wrap everything carefully with black, cream or purple paper or I use boxes and pouches and then I add a butterfly and a gift tag with a thank you note and a business card with a coupon.
I've received positive feedback about the packaging so far :)

Re: Freebies in the package?

I always wrap my textiles in tissue and ribbons, include a handwritten note card that I made with small piece of my handwoven fabric and usually include a handwoven bookmark or coaster. Almost all of my customers have commented they love the freebies and the packaging. Presentation counts as much as the finished product - it is the first thing a customer sees when they open a package from my shop. I want to make a good impression and think both the freebie and the packaging help me towards that goal.

Re: Freebies in the package?

The only thing in my shop that could be considered as "small goodie" are the handmade headbands, but I think most of my customers wouldn't really know what to do with them!
That's why I don't include a free goodie, but I include a thank you paper and a coupon of a 15% discount valid for 1 year.

Re: Freebies in the package?

I only include a discount code on a die punch jean pocket with an extra business card.

All of this has given me ideas for doing other things, so I thank all of you for sharing your great ideas.... so thoughtfully creative!

Re: Freebies in the package?

I think the idea of a freebie is very generous but recently as a buyer I made a small purchase and spent around $4 (including shipping) for small plastic containers and the seller included 2 samples of her most popular selling soaps as well as a long hand written thank you card.

I ended up feeling guilty that she included so much and I didn't have the heart to tell her that the soap made my containers smell so bad I had to air them out for days!

Re: Freebies in the package?

I don't include freebies. I just spend a lot of time making the packaging sweet. I have gotten freebies. Most I don't want or use. It does not make me like the shop any better. I like it when everything arrives quick and neat. I do like sweet business cards. I keep those.

Re: Freebies in the package?

I love putting samples in all the packages. I always mix it up, they never know what they're going to get. And there's always a handwritten thank you note in each and every order. They know I appreciate them. :)

Re: Freebies in the package?

I wouldn't put in anything too fancy- I do write a tiny personal thank you note, a business card and three gift tags made of vintage book pages.....I' have never received a freebie or a thank you note for all the things I've purchased on etsy, and would love it if I did.....

Re: Freebies in the package?

I like to give my return customers a little surprise. Maybe a pair of earrings or something else that I think they'll enjoy. I include a coupon code for 20% off the next order for everyone.

I LOVE getting freebies!! Especially from bead shops and it definitely helps me remember the shop. :0)

Re: Freebies in the package?

Definitely something from your own shop. The person I buy nose studs from always sends me Israeli sweets. I think it depends o what you make whether or not you can offer freebies, I'm still trying to think of something I could offer too as I don't make anything small, might buy some gemstone rings or something but right now I use my coupon codes and send a thank you until I can think of something else
