Facebook "Contest"

I recently hit 500 facebook likes, and I was considering doing a free giveaway to express my gratitude (and also get some more traffic to my shop). I was thinking about giving away 3 popular items and each person can have a chance to win by liking and sharing the picture. Has anyone done this before?

Re: Facebook "Contest"

Yes! I've done a few giveaways and they are also great for gaining FB page likes. Be careful though - FB has very strict rules about giveaways so be sure to go through a giveaway app. The giveaway tab app is what a lot of people use because it's free! Here is the link:

Good luck!!

Re: Facebook "Contest"

Man, I was hoping I could avoid that. I read a little about the legal ramifications if not done right and it made my head spin. They were like app canvas page, create legal terms, don't use facebook features as entrance, be careful to distinguish between "lottery" and "giveaway"...
I was like, "................?!"

Re: Facebook "Contest"

This is an article I found online that helps spell out Facebook's policies about promotions more in "layman's terms". I thought it was helpful! I hope it helps you out, too!

Re: Facebook "Contest"

Has anyone else done a facebook contest? These "legal terms" are confusing and scary!

Re: Facebook "Contest"

As long as you go through an appropriate app and DO NOT post the winner on FB...you have to contact them privately...then you should be fine!

Re: Facebook "Contest"

My friend recently did one, she shared it on Instagram, Facebook, & Twitter. Her post was basically just like the photo on Facebook and comment that you liked it. After the month was over she tallied up the people, picked one at random, posted the winners name on Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram and the person just privately messaged her the address for shipping.

She is not business savy at all so did not know of any legal requirements, likewise restrictions and got away with it. Not saying you should do anything illegal, but unless you are like a huge company and (have value to lose) I don't think Facebook is actively seeking to call you out. You know?

It looks as if you got everything figured out and have the give away posted! Good luck and much success, I wouldn't worry either :)

Re: Facebook "Contest"

I had no idea Facebook was such a pain in the butt about giveaways. Thanks for sharing! This is great to know for the future.

Re: Facebook "Contest"

Today was the last day of the contest and I just checked my art page to find out the winner and noticed my likes when from 568 to 561. I can't believe my eyes. I haven't even announced the winner and people are unliking the page because they know the contest is over? Ugh, I feel really upset. I work really hard to build my facebook page.

Re: Facebook "Contest"

Sadly, you will always get people who do that. They're finks and you shouldn't let them spoil your day. The people who stick around do so because they are truly interested in YOU, not in the contest.

Re: Facebook "Contest"

Wow, I had no idea about this either. I had no idea that a "like" and "share" contest was against Facebook policy. They are all over the place, and I even posted one myself. I am so glad I read this.
