Facebook business page - please help me :(

Hello everyone,

I am new to the team & happy to be here. I hope to learn from this team & I hope I can be helpful as well.

I do not have a personal facebook page or do any other social networking. I decided it would be a good idea to get a facebook account since I have an Etsy shop. I started a "business" facebook page last week & have been pulling my hair out ever since. I can't seem to do anything with it. I have been unable to "like" anyone. And I really don't know if anyone can "like" me. I had one lovely Etsy member post to my wall as a new fan. Honestly, I don't know how she became a fan or how you can tell that she did other than looking at my notifications. However, there is nothing posted on my wall. It is posted on her wall though. I don't understand this.

Basically, it seems like I am unable to do anything unless I create a profile. However, Facebook says it against their rules to create a profile if you are a "business" page. I'm sorry if I am not making any sense. The Facebook lingo is foreign to me. Does anyone else have just a business page? What am I doing wrong? Should I scrap the whole thing & start a personal page?

Any help is appreciated.

I just liked your page through your etsy site and I posted "Hi" on your wall. And I saw where the other person posted on your wall, it was just near the bottom.

If another business "likes" your page, it doesn't show up in the number of likes you have. Same if you try to like another page, they will get a notification that you like them, but it doesn't show up in the tally of "likes."

I have a personal page and a business page. Personal pages can do a lot more then business pages. I don't know why it wouldn't let you function without a personal page. But if it is giving you trouble then it might be worth creating a personal page, then creating a business page through your personal page.

Colleen - so appreciative for clearing some things up for me!! I see your comment on my wall & I finally see the comment from the other Etsy member. And now I have 1 like - thank you!!

I think it is very lame that I can't like someone unless I set up a profile. It is only fair that I return the love. I'm concerned about privacy, that is why I am hesitant to set up a profile. I'm afraid with my lack of understanding, I'll end up making all my personal info public.

You can like someone, it just doesn't count the same as a person I guess. On the left hand side where it says how many likes, when you click on that there is an option to see how many people or pages like you. But only the people are counted in the number.

It's not that hard to make everything private, its easier then it used to be. But if it isn't appealing, I wouldn't. Facebook sort of eats your soul lol

Mandy, I set up a biz acct the same way you did - without a personal acct first. I just sent you a convo, and I hope it will help some.
