Down payment

Hello everyone!

I have a question since its my first time doing this.
How do I charge a customer 50% down payment for a purchase I am only going to mail in July or August?
She is ordering honey favors for a fall wedding and I am going to send the jars only after the fresh honey is extracted.
So how do I do this?
Any advice is welcomed.

Thanks a lot.
Juliana

Re: Down payment

I would create a reserved listing for her and make the price 50% of the total due. When you're ready to send the honey, make up another reserved listing with the remainder as well as the shipping.

Hope this Helps.

Re: Down payment

You can also make an invoice through paypal for any amount. It's quite simple to do. I can't remember off the top of my head, but it's pretty much a matter of clicking a link or two from your paypal main page and filling in the amounts.

Cheers, Adam.

Re: Down payment

Thank you Amanda,
That sounds like a good idea but how do I create a reserve listing. I have been wondering about that since I see it a lot .

Re: Down payment

Very nice idea! Would it be a good idea to add an attached message binding the future order. The only other I could think of would be combine the shipping weight for both orders and ship the second for free so its locked in?

Re: Down payment

I have a listing for a dp in my shop. I think when your doing a custom peice you want to get something before starting but I think the customer doesn't want to pay in full for something they haven't seen yet completed (I guess it depends on price point too)
I agree w/ Amanda too.

Re: Down payment

It's a better idea to create a listing.
Just add to the listing this is for the down payment, order to follow, write the date etc. for what its for.who its for and add the word RESERVE or custom order to it so no one else will purchase in the intrum )

If you invoice her, you won't have an etsy record of the transaction and it could also be considered as fee avoidance been as the order is for etsy..

Good luck
