Domain Names

Has anyone else registered a domain name and pointed it to their shop? I decided to give it a try tonight. The cost is under $10.00 a year. It was simple to set up.

Re: Domain Names

I have a domain name and it is pointed at my shop. Don't get barely any traffic from it, but I do have it for if I ever branch off with my on site.

Re: Domain Names

Your domain name looks so much nicer on a business card or other communication. You could also someday decide to create your own web site and you would have your domain name ready to use.

A domain name alone will not bring you any extra search engine traffic. You would still have to SEO your shop to work well on Google.

i'm pointing people to the different venues im on...but not doing much with it right now.

Re: Domain Names

I have my own domain name....two actually! It's just forwarded to my etsy shop but someday I might decide to set up my own site. Wasn't exactly 'easy' to set up like everyone told me, lol. But it wasn't difficult. Just required watching some how-to videos :o)

Re: Domain Names

i have a domain name but it's not just for my shop, it's for me stuff, but having a website is awesome.

Just go through a nice registrar like 1and1 or yahoo domains or namecheap... not an evil one like godaddy.

Re: Domain Names

I did that for awhile, but then I set up a free website with weebly. Have you seen this thread about doing forwarding a domain to your Etsy shop over in BT? It's huge:

Re: Domain Names

"Claire Ong from BaloolahBunting says

Spacefem, Why not Go Daddy??"

GoDaddy supported SOPA and their CEO was all over for his elephant killing that he takes pride in, it comes down to an ethical issue for many to not buy from Go Daddy.

You can also set up a website using Dropbox. It would be free hosting and would take very little work.
