Dollars or local currency?

Hi,
My shop is based in the UK and I currently list my items in £ sterling - but most of my customers are in the USA.
For buyers in USA - does it make a difference to you if listings are in dollars or in another currency?
For sellers outside USA - what have you found to be the best currency to use?
Looking forward to people's thoughts...
Abraham

Re: Dollars or local currency?

It shows for me in USD as well.

At the bottom of the screen, it will ask you what type of currency you want to see. Mine always just showed as USD.

To answer your question though, I usually sigh and roll my eyes when I see something in non-USD currency, because that means I have to pull up a currency converter, which is just an extra step that I have to do. As a buyer, I want to know exactly how much I am paying. If I see something that I really love, and I have to do the math and notice that is going to be a smidge higher than originally thought, I won't buy it. Its all a psychological thing. If its in USD currency to begin with I probably won't have a problem with it.

I usually just use my local currency because I know that Etsy will convert the amount into whatever currency the customer prefers. Plus the fact that our dollar is so weak works in US customers advantage so they'll get a nice surprise at the checkout if they do go by my currency.

I list in USD as most of customers are from States. It's easier for them, moreover if they change currency, prices will include decimals. As a customer I never liked decimals in prices.

It really doesn't matter what currency you list in because everyone has the option of viewing Etsy in their own preferred currency.

So if you list in Sterling, CDN, AUD, or even chickens or pigs, I'll only see the listing in USD.
