Does your shop need a Relevancy Critique??

Hi Etsy Success Friends,

All of us have been like little sponges, soaking up the tips for success this week. Sometimes we just need a fresh pair of eyes to look at our shop and say - "Hey, you forgot to use this tag!" or "You might try this title!"

The rules:
1. You are at least moderately up-to-date with the suggestions for Relevancy and

2. If you pop into this thread and want to be critiqued yourself, you can join by critiquing the last shop that commented. The next person to pop in will critique you.

3. You don't have to look at every listing and every tag. . . but try to come up with a few suggestions . . .Words or Synonyms that you think would help with relevancy search.

Hi Gems,

So having a look I think that your titles could be worked on in terms of relevancy. You have kept to having nice names that give them personality but that may not be searched for directly.

I have tried to get around this one myself. For example;

This necklace could be called something like:

Carnelian and Coral Semi Precious Necklace

Then you can tack on the name after as the relevancy mainly looks at first three words, so..

Carnelian and Coral Semi Precious Necklace - Enlightenment and Peace Necklace.

In other words a practical description followed by your creative name.

That way you can be relevant and also descriptive but give the importance to relevance.

I also think that your items are lovely (i love semi precious etc) but I think the backgrounds are bit too distracting, and the items would show up really well against a white background.

That would bring a more peaceful look to your shop.

Thanks so much Gems! I will work on the thumbnails. And as far as the prices, I still need help with picking the right amounts, but with those two examples, the $3.00 purse was easy to make and can only hold a tube of lipstick or two. The $48.00 purse is bigger, lined with magnetic closure, and has a OOAK hand painted image of a Picasso work. Any suggestions on what my prices should be?

for those posting for a critique, this is a give and take, critique the last poster ie ME and the next person will do your shop, otherwise people who put in work get skipped which is unfair

I am somewhat new so please keep this in mind when you read my critiques

- banner, your banner is VERY BRIGHT so your white lettering gets lost at the end. perhaps do a border of a dark color around your shop name to make it stand out

-most of your photos are nice and sharp. a few can use brightening up such as your minimalist ring and rounded zen resin ring

- item titles, they say the first 3 words should be important keywords.
example item chosen at random:

http://www.etsy.com/listing/79969515/modern-boho-cherry-blossom-resin-bangle

your first 3 words Modern Boho Cherry are not as valuable for a search as say... Resin Bangle. perhaps reword along the lines of 'Resin Bangle cherry blossom... the last few words can be more descriptive, this way the important keywords get picked up by search engines

- your tags appear well thought out and I'm having trouble critiquing those
perhaps use some 'double tags' that would come up in a search like 'flower bangle' 'floral bangle' 'handmade bangle' since an exact phrase will bring up your item alot better than 2 random keywords searched together. it will also bring you more specific searches thus increasing your heart/sale chance

Your first 20 charters in description should have exactly what your item is. Helps with SEO.

Bird song wreath tags:
lace wreath
romantic home decor
Victorian home decor
cream lace wreath
Precious wreath tags:
paper wreath
felt flower wreath
spring green wreath
floral wreath

your shop announcement seems to be stuffed with tags, but no story. this may be a turnoff. perhaps reword it so that it looks inviting while still including tags and keywords

many of your titles are good, but some of them are too short

for example:
felted balls in ivory, I would consider: ivory felted balls since the first 3 words are most important, then add some descriptive details to complete the title.
Same thing for Felted Bag Blue Butterfly. it's beautiful, so tell me more about it to get me to click on it
example changes: Butterfly Felted Bag - Handmade from Blue Hand Dyed Wool.... this sounds so much more exciting and I bet you can think of even more descriptive words to add based on what drives your creative process

Tags: you have some serious tag stuffing going on. this is putting unrelated words together which holds the searches back, instead only put related words together as they may be searched, for example

http://www.etsy.com/listing/75811271/felted-bag-blue-butterfly

Underarm purse bag: try underarm purse, underarm bag, butterfly and natural should be individual tags, tote floral blue try 'floral tote' 'blue tote'

other words to consider: handmade bag, wool bag, felt bag,

you have some tags that are not likely to be searched so I would consider removing to make room for the above corrections, for example (same item)
free shipping (frowned on by search engines) 'romantic ladies' 'brooch pin button' completely unrelated to each other AND to your itme

I'd also remove: book bag, shoulder handbag

OK I am coming back again in hopes someone will take a 2nd look. I've unstuffed my tags a bit, updated my store announcement, but you know I am noticing that the dumb dumb titled products in my category are coming up first. I give my scarves romantic names, so change them from "Afterglow" to orange silk scarf is going to be really depressing for me.. would love feedback

Things are looking pretty good to me. Only comment I have is that when you are putting colors in your tags like with this one:

That you might want to change "teal" and "green" to be "green silk scarf" or "teal silk scarf" as those would be more likely phrases that people would search for.

Another tag I might consider adding is "hand painted silk scarf" or "hand dyed silk scarf" as those seem to be popular searches.

If someone is able to take a look at my shop that would be amazing! Am feeling very "irrelevant" at the moment. :(

I changed my titles as directed by this discussion, anyone interested in checking it out and telling me if its a better 'irrelveant' title? I used to have the names of the art for titles and i changed the titles to be more descriptive as per advice.

ok for example "A Blue Song-watercolor framed and matted, original by Diann" This you can rename to Framed Watercolor Painting-Matted Art Work-and the finish it with the title of the art work A Blue Song or you dont even have to put it on the title but add it to the description- this way that will draw more attention to the words that one searches. This is from personal experience- the most important words go FIRST ok :) hope I helped!

OMinallO, I looked at your shop and all the photos looked alike except the different colored beads. Tthe photos could be varied to cause more interest, like show the bracelet worn, laying on a flower. It was just a bit starling to click on to your shop and see all the same photos. I like jewerly photos where they drap the items over flowers and seashells, romantic-like. The titles need revalency...check out some discussion groups on this issue. That being said I think you have a good quality item that you are selling, in fact I happen to love hand-braided bracelets.

Pop in some romanic photos and watch the views increase!

minibytes I do Ok so what you need to do is to make plain background that is what I learned, also make your titles more colorful they alls tart the same way, try putting the most important words first and then the less important ones. Other than that very cute store- drop by my store and give a tip what to change :) go make my first sale :)

Minibytes, I have no idea what a Amigurumi is, so I might not be the best person to critique your shop, but just looking at the tags and what people have told me, you might want to make them a bit longer to fit what someone might type in. For example, instead of just brown, brown pin cushion. Or crocheted mouse. mouse pin cushion, etc.

I think if I was looking for something like your product, I would search terms like : woodland creatures, animal pin cushions, crocheted duck, etc... Does this help? Love your shop!
