Does your shop need a Relevancy Critique??

Hi Etsy Success Friends,

All of us have been like little sponges, soaking up the tips for success this week. Sometimes we just need a fresh pair of eyes to look at our shop and say - "Hey, you forgot to use this tag!" or "You might try this title!"

The rules:
1. You are at least moderately up-to-date with the suggestions for Relevancy and

2. If you pop into this thread and want to be critiqued yourself, you can join by critiquing the last shop that commented. The next person to pop in will critique you.

3. You don't have to look at every listing and every tag. . . but try to come up with a few suggestions . . .Words or Synonyms that you think would help with relevancy search.

Hey there MarciAnnDesigns -

First off, love your art! It's great! So many great gift ideas for teachers! Which is where I will start.

Tagging: Definitely add that to your tags, Teacher Gifts. It seems you have stuffed some tags with color, "green red orange" when on some of them, you have included color already in the tag. You have also doubled up on "Key Chain" and "Mouse Pad".

Pictures: Some are a little grey/dark. And perhaps take some pictures with a coffee cup or pan on top of the mouse pad to 'show' it's versatility? And perhaps add a picture of the Lobster Claw in with the Key Fobs?

Descriptions: You've done wonderful at describing your item, however, do I get one key fob or two?

Pricing: very reasonable.

The shop banner has a lot of potential, I can see where your going with it and it definitely has a theme. However, I think it could be more polished, it looks like them image has been stretched, so it's blurry. Maybe you were going for a frosted over look, but it doesn't pixelate well. And I would suggest change the font to something a little more readable. The part that says "Suzie2q" kind of looks like a captcha! Just curious what design program you used for that, because if it is photoshop or illustrator, I could give you some pointers.

I like the introduction, the list of what you do, custom packages, you have experience. It lets the customer trust you are professional and design pretty much anything flower-related for their wedding.

Your pictures are gorgeous. Bright and inviting (l would suggest maybe changing your banner to featuring some of your favorite pieces, not too busy, maybe just use white as a background and let the flowers speak for themselves, because your flowers are prettier than you banner!). Also, some of them need to be rotated.

As for tags, the very first item has really good tags, but I might say daisies instead of gerbara daises. Also, the "real touch" tag, I'm not really sure what that means. Maybe handmade might be a better tag. Same with the lilies, maybe just red lilies, so you get a more broad search, but that's all I have.

Anyone ready to critique me? I am having trouble coming up with tags, I don't even use all 14 of them. Relevancy is very important especially because my shop is pretty new

@ rbutler305 the program used was print shop for banner. Thanks for your thoughts, appreciate the advice on my banner. It can use some improvements.

Thanks so much for the critique! When I've looked at everything so many times it all starts looking the same after awhile.

Those tags are a work in progress, I'm changing them constantly. I read in one place that you should have the same word/phrase in the title, the description and the tags...then I read where you only need it once. And I have found where I doubled up in the tags so I'm sure there are some I haven't caught yet.

Great idea on the pictures. If only it wasn't such a laborious process. Does anyone else find this part excruciating like I do? lol...set up my whitebox, the lights and camera, take pictures, download to my laptop, upload to Picnik, adjust, crop, save, download back to the laptop, upload to Etsy...I'm exhausted every time I do this!

Back to work, and I really do appreciate the ideas. I'll incorporate all of them this week.

@Mirrored Sky: I think your shop is great and your pics are excellent. I looked at your titles and they seem to say what's needed in the right order - Maybe on some of your earrings, put that first. I know you have Halloween in the title of the appropriate item, but it certainly couldn't hurt to use it again in your tags.

I just peaked really quickly at your shop. Love your stuff! Here's my one suggestion...when I look at earrings, I like to see them hanging so I can get a better idea of what they look like. Someone suggested photographing earrings hanging off the edge of a white teacup. I like all of them!

Hi @rbutler305, I am also new, but I hope I could help.
1. you leave the policy section empty, that's not good, as long as I know it is also one place you can include your keywords, so write something and put the most important key words in the first few sentences.

2. you don't use all the keyword spots, we have 13 in total, so it's better to use all of them.

3. many people are suggesting not using too many simple single word as key words. so you can try more word combination as keywords.

4. you may need to edit our titles, please be sure to put the most impotant words in the front. for instance this one (think about how a buyer can search):

I would use: Dangle Earrings, Swarovski Crystal, Triangle, High Fasion, Shabby Chic

I would change this into two sentences, like this, as it sounds a bit awkward:

"This adorable bib has a NO PVC waterproof liner to protect clothing and a Velcro closure for easy on- easy off. Closure is sewn down with a satin stitch to prevent the edges from poking your little one."

Photos look great with the props! Perhaps add more contrast when photo editing to get a bit more POP from your items.

First off, lovely shop, love those pillows

Now for the relevancy. Keywords are key in having your product found, and the first 3 words in your title are the words picked up by search engines.
A title like: Space age on Salmon, or Green and Red 1950s are cool for someone already looking at your item but do reconsider putting 'searchable' words at the start of each title.

for example, for 'Space age on Salmon' why not try something like:
'Barkcloth Pillow Cover - Space age on Salmon - Vintage Reproduction'

This tells a 'random viewer' what they're looking at, while still keeping your 'fun' title there

another example, for the green and reds 1950s, again this tells me NOTHING about your product and gives me no incentive to click

why not try something like this instead:
'Barkcloth pillow cover - Red and Green 1950s geometric square - limited quantity'

This tells me: what this is, color/type/year, and let's me know it's limited so I better click now

AmyMichelleJewelry-I like your jewelry, but find that some of the pictures are dark or have shadows in them. I do however like the props (like the flower) you use in your pics. I like that you hve a range of designs also.

Hey PoshAdornments - gorgeous shop you have! Great photos and everything looks very inviting :) Maybe you could alter your titles to have the item description first, like: "I Dream of the Ocean-Freshwater Pearl Octopus Pendant
" would become "Pendant Freshwater Pearl Octopus, I Dream of the Ocean" and Hello Sailor Nautical Cameo Ring, would become 'Ring Cameo Nautical Anchor , Hello Sailor

Personally I like the fun titles but all the advice seems to be heading to putting the item type first to get it up there on the searches.

Regarding tags- I think you are using them really well with good keywords, but how about using some short phrases too, like instead of just 'adjustable' make it 'adjustable ring' then anyone searching that phrase (which is more likely than someone just searching 'adjustable') your item will come up before anyone who only has 'adjustable' and 'ring' separately. Also phrases like 'hair accessories' is more specific and I think most people would type that as a phrase is they are looking for hair accessories.

Hope thats useful, I am struggling with my tags so I might not be the best advice giver ;)

But I think you could add a longer title like: original art notepad, mermaid drawing, 2.5 x 3.5in- original design, customizable

in your tags you have blank, I don't know who would search for that. also include the words in your longer, improved title.

I like your notebook with panda. I think you can add on the tags something about the kind of paper (white, ruled, etc)
Maybe even take a picture of how it is inside.
