Does it help to renew an item?

Hi there! I have a few items that don't expire for a couple of months, but does it help to renew them now? Will this bring them closer to the top if a search is done? Is there any benefit at all? Thanks!

It will not do much for Search, since Search is relevancy based (although it still makes up for a small part of the relevancy algorithm).
But it will bring your item back on top in Categories and the newly listed items shown on the front page.
It is up to you to decide if it is worth the extra 20 cents for that particular item.

You don't want to rely on renewing for having your items found.
SEO (search engine optimalisation) and promoting (!) are the answer to that.

Some people said it helps. I haven't tried yet. I may try soon too. If you have the budget, it doesn't hurt to try. my 2 cents.

I have been wondering this same thing myself. It seems that you either have to spend hours upon hours a day marketing and blogging, or spend money relisting and promoting. If anyone has a magic formula to get success, I'd love to hear it! :) Good luck Rebecca!

It used to help, even a little after the relevancy change over, because they used to add the new listing to categories at a set time and if you knew when it was you could get your items on the first page, and even that 10 minutes on top would get a couple views. But now that it's random there is not rhyme or reason. Though it is best to stagger when you have to renew your listings, instead of doing the whole shop every 4 months I usually do one item every second and 3rd day...

I started renewing recently, but only the items I listed four months ago that are expiring now. It's helping me while I have a slow production period (no time to make anything new).

I think one should renew the item if it's expired or about to expire. If you are good with SEO, relevancy, etc, you don't need to renew random items in your shop all the time.

I imagine it only makes sense if you sell pricy stuff. For example if you're trying to sell a $500 painting, then yeah, what's 20 cents/day to promote that? But for example my stuff is $10 and between etsy and paypal fees and another 20 cents here and there, it really adds up.

Sometimes it does help, sometimes I don't see any change. However, I still renew.

I renewed several items to test it out and didn't notice a difference at all. :P

It must depend on how your shop is set up. What kind you are selling, etc. I renew about once a day or list an item. My views are up in the last few weeks. It also might be helping that I am active (non-spam) on FB and twitter. My views are up (100+ today!).
