Does anyone know?

Why would you list an item that's exactly like another in your shop more than once?

In other words why would I list 5 of the same black purses in my shop if I can just re-list it if it sells?

I have seen many that do this and I just don't understand why you would spend the money. Am I missing something?

I am very curious. TIA!

Re: Does anyone know?

I sometimes list more than one of my most popular items, or knit/crochet patterns, especially during hot holiday season. You can't stay online 24/7, so when one item sells and you're not around to immediately relist it, other customers still have a chance to purchase this item. Does it make sense? :)

natalya, when listing your items you can make the number of how many you are listing more then 1 and you will pay 20 for each.
I think people who make a new listing for the same item just want to have more visibility. Personally when I see it is a turn off for me.

Re: Does anyone know?

I think it depends on the product, I bought from a supply Etsy shop that sold ribbon and beads and things and they put the same item multiple times so that if you could purchase as much as you wanted without have to convo them for a special listing. But otherwise no real point. I just renew sold after I get a sale.

I agree with buffalogirls about getting more visibility with multiple listings. New listings start out at page 1 and go farther from the first page of search the older they get.

If I have 3 of an item and make only one listing with a quantity of 3 for instance, then the listing goes to page 1 only once.

But if I list the 3 items separately and on different days, then the same item is on page 1 three different times. Personally, I don't do this. But it is probably not a bad idea unless it turns people off.

The other reason to list multiples is to test out sections. If an item can fit more than one section and you have multiples of that item, you can see where it might sell better or get more views.

Re: Does anyone know?

I guess it could end up on different pages in your shop. Maybe there is a more popular page that people look at. If you have the same item on each page it might stand out against something or blend in on another page. I hope that makes sense.

Re: Does anyone know?

Another thought. If a customer wants mulitple of the same item it is right there for them. I know as a buyer I dont or have missed the quantity available icon.
