Do you need help with SEO?

Hi!

I am a professional content marketer and writer and I have extensive knowledge in SEO, online and social media marketing...

I need your help - I am writing a book "SEO for the Etsy Seller" and I am almost done with it....

I was thinking if I am missing something, and then I thought, let me ask my fellow Etsians!

What do you want to learn about SEO?
What do you want to see in a SEO for Etsy book?

Thanks for your input! The book will be out very soon :)

Re: Do you need help with SEO?

Yes! I want to know the best strategies for optimizing for both Etsy search and Google. They seem to be very different.

Etsy SEO seems to be rather elusive to me too. I can get some items coming up really well in search (my cup cozies) and I use the same strategies for other items, (my fingerless gloves) and they can't be found. I feel like there is something I am missing.

Re: Do you need help with SEO?

I think the best will be if you take a few listings as use them as an example and actually do it all the way with title, key words and so like you are listing on etsy. But may be a few different products. I see the same questions been asked over amd over and it really depends on what are you selling as well. I feel if people have actual examples they will understand better. The reason I am thinking this way is because herenyou see an article about SEO in details and right after it you see questions like but what about my shop, what about my lisiting?

Re: Do you need help with SEO?

What a good idea! I have a lot of difficulties with SEO and by looking at your shop, I started to understand more. Whed adding a new item, I use the 13 words that help to find my product but it was'nt clear for me that I should do it more in the title of my listings. I wish you a lot of succes with your book!

Re: Do you need help with SEO?

I know that SEO was supppper confusing to me, and still partly is... You can start with a basic definition I guess.. That would be helpful, and then ways to market to specific areas of the internet, like one on google, pintrest, twitter, Facebook, etc... I think that that would be SUPER helpful!!! :D

Re: Do you need help with SEO?

Thank you everyone for the input! Yes, there are Relevancy and SEO teams on Etsy and I suggest you all to take a look at those as you might get many of your questions answered.

My book will go a step further and as I see I will be talking about many of the things that you are concerned with, guys - keyword research, Google and Etsy differences, social media for SEO, etc.

Thanks again for confirming my topics! Book will be in my shop by the end of the week :) If you want me to let you know when it is out, send me a convo.

Re: Do you need help with SEO?

cindy's team discusses all of those things (keyword research, google and etsy differences, social media for SEO, etc.) for free.

There are, from what I can see, two areas of weakness in Etsy sellers regarding SEO:

1. They don't understand (as their main focus/interest/skill is the art or craft instead of the business) how SEO works, even after reading threads like cindy's or others that are free to use. If you can explain things to them in even simpler terms than the available resources here, you might be of some help. I don't know how it can be made much simpler, though - it's a complicated topic!

2. They are unwilling to do the work necessary to establish good SEO. It doesn't matter whose advice you read if you won't do the keyword research necessary, or read through the recommended best practices, or analyze your stats carefully. It is as much work as the actual production of items and then some!

Also, maybe you're new to this team? But promos, even disguised ones, are not allowed. Disguised ones may pass by, but they're generally considered a bit gauche.

Re: Do you need help with SEO?

I think people need help with how to do effective keyword research, as well as the SEO that follows the research. Highlighting both ends of that journey would be helpful!

Re: Do you need help with SEO?

I'd like to know how the BIG key words are picked.

Using my own company for example as I know that bit best.
I can get on the 1st page for more specific stuffs. like "glass heart necklace" "Icicle ornament" "Glass dragon" "Glass Rose" Bam I'm there, first page.

"Heart necklace" "ornament" " Dragon" "rose" and well...I am no where to be found ever......and I have looked at it enough clearly there is a ranking but hell if I can figure out that Next level.
And Yes there are millions of "heart necklaces" Why that first page? Thats what I would need to know.

and Yes I have the key words in my titles, in the keys words, long key words and such words in the description.

Re: Do you need help with SEO?

It's determined by a few things, Breanna (and some we don't know about, otherwise the system would be too easy to game).

Some things we know have an effect: recency (in the big searches, most of the top items will be relatively recently listed/renewed) and shopper behavior in aggregate (this means things like hearts, clicks, pins, treasuries, etc. from search).

Re: Do you need help with SEO?

I agree with Matthew and Sara - there is a big part of the SEO equation that we don't know about - both in Etsy and on Google - but it's safe to say that SEO is not only about titles and tags but the "points" that listings are given from social media, online presence, Etsy views and favorites, recency and as you have seen already - competition.

It is easier to be on the first page for less competitive keywords and it takes more SEO effort (on site and off site) to rank for more popular keywords.
