Do you have a blog for your shop? How to build a following?

What types of posts do you write?

I always post new items, some works in progress as well as personal posts (family photos etc) and even a few tutorials.

Right now I only have 25 followers on my blog.

How do I get more followers? I have a lot more followers on my FB and Twitter, but my blog is lagging....

Any advice? I'd love to see YOUR blog too if you have one. Please post a link :)

Here's my blog:

Thanks!
Cathy

I have 2 blogs, one is fairly new and the other growing rapidly, but both have a website incorporated into them, as well.

Re: Do you have a blog for your shop? How to build a following?

Hi Cathy - very nice blog! I have a blog set up but I have not blogged much at all. It is one of my goals to post more regularly. I also don't follow blogs much because I have yet to find the best method of keeping up on them. I've tried various methods and I just get overwhelmed with the number of posts and give up. I'd love to hear what others use to follow blogs by other people.

My blog is located on my website: www.flickertailfibers.com.

Thanks Tiffany and Lisa!
Through blogger you can add a widget to follow blogs.
Others use Google Plus or RSS feeds.

Off to check out your blogs!

I just started a new blog. Right now, I'm doing a 30 days of hand lettering project, and plan to post about my art, designs, inspiration, etc.

Re: Do you have a blog for your shop? How to build a following?

I do have a blog (and thanks for mentioning this because, looking at it, I realized I hadn't posted anything in nearly 3 months!). A lot of my posts are just for me, like a journal, but I do list new items, new customers, events, from time to time, and when I do I share the post on FB and Twitter. I only have 9 followers but I have a good number of page views. I think people just don't want to get the constant stream from subscribing to a lot of blogs, but that doesn't mean they don't look at them.

Re: Do you have a blog for your shop? How to build a following?

I use my personal back to basics / adventures blog for my etsy as well. I sometimes post a treasury and certain new items from time to time, but I mainly post about my life - what I'm learning and what's goin on with me. I only have 8 followers, but last week I only had 5 so since I've been trying to market it a little bit I have gotten more followers. I have been using blog-train a bit, as well as a few people on twitter. I direct my tweets to certain blog promoters which I think is helping a little.

Re: Do you have a blog for your shop? How to build a following?

I started my blog as a personal journal of my creative process/progress. I had retired and wanted to do the things I said I would do when I retired. I thought writing a blog would help keep me on a regular routine. It has done that and inspired me to open an Etsy shop. Sometimes I feel like I am working harder than when I had a "real job" I love it though. I just need to learn how to balance all of my doings.

Re: Do you have a blog for your shop? How to build a following?

it can be hard picking up followers...i picked up a ton of followers on tumblr pretty easily because i think it is easier to find random tumblrs than it is to find random blogs. i gravitate towards "lifestyle" blogs myself so i am aiming to do similar. i know people love outfit posts so eventually when i get a nicer camera i would love to include outfit posts as well, but so far mine is mainly food, fashion, home and some crafty stuff.

Re: Do you have a blog for your shop? How to build a following?

I have a blog as of yesterday:
http://gigi82knits.blogspot.de/

I'm currently still quite overwhelmed with it. Can't figure out how to add text after loading up a picture etc.

What I did yesterday, with my first post: It was a funny picture and I pinned it on Pinterest and it got re-pinned a few times. Over night, for some reason, I had over 100 page views, don't know where those came from.

Re: Do you have a blog for your shop? How to build a following?

I have a blog tto, created it about 3 months ago when I opened my Etsy shop.
I blog about my crafts, give sneak peak on projects I'm working on, talk about my life as a mom ( for example, I did a post on my daughter's 1st bday with some pics!), share some Etsy finds...

Right now, I know (thanks to Google analytics) that I more visits than actual followers...I also know that many of them are returning visitors even if they don't suscribe as official followers!

Have you tried Hellocotton?...could be another way to gain some followers...

By the way, I really love your blog, I'll be following you! ;)
You can take a look at mine, if you'd like, we could maybe do some blog ad swap?

Take care!
Vanessa

Re: Do you have a blog for your shop? How to build a following?

Cathy the pics on your blog are fantastic!

I have a blog, but like OP and some others of you, I don't have a lot of followers and have been slacking in keeping it up to date! I go through phases where I am dedicated to posting and keeping it updated, and then I lag behind and time gets away from me.

When I post, I tend to post about new products, custom orders I've made, and new projects I'm experimenting on.

I think it is important to view your blog as a magazine. Make sure you balance your advertising with content. Don't just post new items- post some articles that people would love to read about. Post articles that people want to come back to your blog to read.

Re: Do you have a blog for your shop? How to build a following?

I have a blog. I had one for years and years and years when I was writing (brendabradshaw.blogspot.com) but closed that one after I got married last year, and since I wasn't writing anymore. Now it's http://sandersinstitches.blogspot.com -- I post about life -- from kids to scouts to Etsy. Most of my "followers" are from my personal page on FB. I post when I put a new post up and for some reason, they comment on FB instead of the blog. So... for the actual blog followers, I have a big ol' zero. Thankfully I know it's being read or I'd cry... LOL!
