Do I need specific packaging photos in each listing?

Hi!

I'd appreciate any opinions! For all of my art print listings, I have a photo at the end of how the packaging looks. It is a generic photo of the rigid mailer in ribbon. This is what I use for shipping all of my prints. I like to include a photo of the packaging because when I shop on etsy, I love when shops include a photo of how they package their items.

Here's my question:
I'm starting to sell children's clothing. I'd like to include a photo or two of how I package the clothing since I say that it's "ready for gift giving." But I'm wondering…can I use a generic photo of one bodysuit packaged, or is it better to fake package every single sample shirt and include the specific photo in every different listing? Not sure if that makes sense, but basically I'm saying that if I "package" and photograph every single sample bodysuit or shirt, this will be a lot of extra work. BUT will people be confused if, for example, the photo of the cupcake bodysuit all packaged is in every single listing? Here is the listing with the cupcake packaged:

I was thinking I would use those cupcake photos as my "generic example" of how I package every order.

Do you think this is a good or bad idea?

Thanks!

I'd use the same photo. I don't put that in my listings, I've got mine on my About page, though. Sometimes I need every pic to show a piece off. That's just me, though. :)

The same photo of the specific item? Thanks!

I've seen other shops that use the same, generic packaging photo for each listing even though it doesn't match the design of the product being sold. I don't see an issue with that. I won't think you need to "package" each sample bodysuit. That is a lot of extra work.

It's okay to use the same photo for each listing. Just make sure to be clear that the photo is to show the packaging only and is not necessarily the item for sale.

No, I meant one generic photo, I'm sorry. Clear as mud there. :)

Thanks Erin and Judy!

So you don't think people would be confused if they were buying a boy's shirt and there was a packaged cupcake photo in the listing?

Or I could use a gender neutral bodysuit instead for the packaging photo, like my hedgehog one that can be for a boy or a girl.

Or just use a blank bodysuit as the "example". Instead of using 2/5 photos for your packaging, on a side note, what about getting some photos of your bodysuits with baby models? I think it helps and I would rather see how the clothes fit and how they look (where the image falls if wearing with pants, tutus, etc., rather than multiple photos of the packaging. Too many times, I find cute bodysuits, but the images are too low and are covered up by the bottoms. JMO, Erica

ETA: or use editing software to do a 4 photo collage of multiple examples in one photo of your packaging.

Thanks Erica. Since I'm just starting to launch this, though, I am going to wait with using baby models and see how everything goes. Then maybe I'll look into it! I understand what you're saying, though!

I think you're fine using one "stock" photo of your packaging. People just want an idea of what it will look like.

I think I'm going to use photos 4 and 5 from this listing for all of the listings since it's gender neutral!
