Difference b/w being followed and being added to a circle

Hi everyone!

Just wondering what is the difference between when someone follows me and when someone adds me to their circle? I have been getting emails saying both.

My only thought is that if someone favorites my shop, then maybe I am being followed, and if they are in my circle, they just added me there?

Not sure, and I was a little confused by the wording!

I think following you and adding you to their circle is the same thing.
