Critique?

Hi,

I've just started a new shop and I was wondering what people thought of it so far.
I'm still in the process of adding items to it but apart from that I would like to know how to improve.
Thanks.

Re: Critique?

Elsie,

Looking over your shop and profile, here are my initial thoughts:

1. Cute product! I like that it takes a second look to fully appreciate your illustrations.

2. Photo presentation is very appropriate. So many dishes on Etsy--and any site, for that matter--are photographed by themselves, or with an obscure object, such as a plant. Place settings make much more sense.

3. It's good that you have a return policy. And it is more than fair to make the customer pay for return shipping.

4. You must have a niche, since you already have a handful of admirers!

... Now for the things I think you have room to improve, if I may be so bold.

1. The more eye-catching pieces are the ones with a pop of color. Love the flowers, love the koala plate that says, "The Last Custard." There's a stylistic element there that the plain black-and-white ones lack. Consider adding that one element of color to more of your pieces.

2. In your shop policies, take a quick perusal for spelling errors. Obviously there are some spellings that vary between English-speaking countries; however, I believe that the difference between "accept" (to take) and "except" (excluding) is the same everywhere. Other things that jumped out were "hand made," which is one word, "accomadate," which I believe is universally spelled "accommodate," and "endevour," which I'm not positive is spelled the same everywhere but I believe is spelled "endeavor." It shows professionalism to have all spelling and grammar up to snuff, especially in all the places that you expect your customers to regularly see.

... Other than that, though, looks like you're off to a good start! Hope you find these tidbits useful and encouraging. Best of luck!

Your shop is so darn cute!

Really, there isn't much that I can make suggestions on. Your photography is great, I think that it was smart of you to set the table for every plate. Your product looks great, it's hard to believe that you did them yourself! Your prices (While out of my price range) are right about where I would expect for such fun and beautiful plates!

My one suggestion would be working on SEO (Something that I am working on as well). Your titles are awesome, but I would maybe try to cram as many key words into the first couple of sentences of your description as possible. Your tags look great though!

Re: Critique?

Thank you for your kind words and advice.

I've put my shop policies through a proper spell checker and corrected everything. so hopefully that's all ok now.

Thank you.

Re: Critique?

Hi, I agree with Wacky Wanita about the little splash of colour. The ones with a little bit of colour really stand out far more than the fully monochrome ones, I realise it is a little harder to add to some of the current designs, but I feel it makes a big difference.

One of the major points in getting your shop found on Etsy is volume. There is a huge volume of items for sale on Etsy, and if you want your items to stand out, you really need to have a lot of them. I'm just about to hit 100 items, and I can see a huge difference in the amount of views, favourites, treasuries, and (not so huge) sales, but I know that once I've doubled my shop again I'll see a huge leap again. Don't run yourself ragged trying to build up stock though, just understand that you'll see more action once you do get there...

This is for two reasons. Firstly, the more items you have, the adverts for your items you effectively have, the more your products will show up in searches and people will begin to recognise your brand. Secondly, buyers may like your style - but currently you only have nine of the film parody plate things, what's the likelihood that you have encapsulated your buyer with one of those nine films? I don't see the film/s that would sway me to buy - either for myself or a friend. Get more in there.

Also I prefer the set up of your film plates to how you have photographed the other plates. If you do them all the same it will make your shop look more cohesive. Also, I would play with re-arranging your shop (your shop > options > enable rearrange shop) so that it doesn't look like such a big leap from random plates at the top, film plates at the bottom.

Re: Critique?

I like your products, and your shop :-)
Is it possible to lower the shipping cost to US? 16 dollar is very high.

Re: Critique?

Thanks, I will defiantly mix up my shop a bit. I’m still trying to come up with other film reference designs, but there will be more. As this is something I’ve just started I’m still trying to build up my stock of course, but I’m working my way through several designs a day.

As for the shipping costs, It costs me nearly £16 for U.S. postage (without the packaging costs), that’s nearly $25. I’m very torn over what to do there, I don’t want shipping ridiculously high, but I also don’t want people put off by the plate prices.
