Convo Thank You Notes

Just wondering....how does everyone feel about sending/receiving a short convo to say thank you when hearts are received for either favorite item or shop? I try to always do this......wondering, is it helpful and thoughts from buyers side?

Re: Convo Thank You Notes

I don't do that. To be honest, I would probably be a little taken aback if I got a convo from a seller if I favorited their item.
I send thank you's to customers, both via convo and with a thank you card when I I ship their items, and I will reply on FB when someone says something nice about an item I posted there. But not for liking my shop or an item of mine.
jmo, there may be people who do that same as you. It would just be uncomfortable and not 'me' to do that.

Re: Convo Thank You Notes

I agree with lola and clementine,
I thank a customer who has just purchased something as well as a thank you card with their item, but never when someone favorites me.
Personally I think it can be a little intrusive, like when you walk into a store and the shop owner follows you around when you're just browsing and admiring things.

I wouldn't be put off if someone sent me a thank you note for hearting their shop or an item, but I probably wouldn't respond because I'm not sure I'd have anything to say.

Thank you for asking that question, HarrisMarksHome.

I responded to a couple of favorites before I read someplace that it can be intrusive. Gosh, I was so excited to hear any feedback, I wanted to tell them for taking the time to favorite something of mine! Patience, I guess.

Re: Convo Thank You Notes

I never thank someone for a shop heart or item heart. I have had people send me thank you's after hearting their shop along with a coupon code which I find a little annoying.

To me it's a just a tad pushy. I always send thank you notes out once I ship an item and will include a coupon code with the item (mini moo cards are awesome) if they had a large order...or if I just feel like it:)

Re: Convo Thank You Notes

I did this twice when I first opened my shop. I gave someone a heart and they sent me a convo thanking me, so I thought, "oh, how nice" and thought I should do the same. I got a response from one of them telling me I shouldn't be doing that because it is considered spamming. I didn't mean any harm, I was just trying to be nice...I was flattered.

Re: Convo Thank You Notes

Lots of people consider that "spammy". I don't do it nor would I recommend doing it. I know if I got such a message every time I 'hearted' something I would be a little turned off, especially since I do lots of shopping on Etsy and favorite lots of items.

Re: Convo Thank You Notes

i don't send thank you convos for hearts either, only for purchases.
i did get a thank you convo once for hearting an item, and i thought it seemed a little desperate even though i'm sure they just meant to be nice. but then about a week later i got a coupon code for that item since i'd hearted it, and i thought that was a bit much and it felt like spam. it actually made me not want to buy from them as much because it felt pushy.

Re: Convo Thank You Notes

I read somewhere on Etsy, in the handbook or a blog or somewhere, that when someone hearts your item or shop, it's not an invitation to convo them. I think it's generally frowned upon. I thought it'd be a nice gesture too, then I read that it's considered spam.

Re: Convo Thank You Notes

HarrisMarksHome,

I'm still a little confused about circle etiquette myself, would like to know what others think. Personally I can't see anything wrong with adding someone to your circle that hearts you.

Re: Convo Thank You Notes

When I started getting hearts I was flattered & thought it was polite to send a thanks but I was set straight on another forum. I do still say thanks when I am included in a treasury, however. Hope that's not considered spammy!

Re: Convo Thank You Notes

According to the Etsy Do's and Don't it is prohibited. It is considered SPAM.
