Consignment Shops

I am looking into getting into two consignment shops in Ohio. But one is $35 a month with 10% commission. And the other is $80-$90 a month with a 12% commission. I do not have to work at the stores and the higher priced one is in Amish country so it gets good traffic.

Is this reasonable? And are they worth it?

I have Ohio State items that I will be putting in the shops. www.thebuckeyelady.etsy.com

Re: Consignment Shops

Can you try it for 3 months to see what happens, or do you have to sign a long-term agreement ?

Re: Consignment Shops

I do not have to sign an agreement at either store. Do you think I would get a good feel for the store in Three months or do I need to stay in longer?

Re: Consignment Shops

Maybe you should go with just the store that you said has more traffic (the one in Amish Country). Maybe start in June (when school vacations start) and give it six months which would bring you through the Holidays which is the busiest time for retail. ?

Re: Consignment Shops

Is that THEIR commission or your commission?

I would require that they show proof of insurance in case of theft.

Three months should give you a good feel depending on how much inventory you have there. Though sometimes sales can fluctuate.

Re: Consignment Shops

That is their commision and I would pay the monthly fee.

Valerie Tyler- that is a good idea asking about insurance. Thanks!
