Christmas tags

Just a quick question.

I'm currently going over my tags and am just wondering if I should use "Christmas" and "Gift" seperately, or "Christmas gift" as one tag. I'm never quite sure what to do about joining up words in tags.

Thanks, - Sally

Re: Christmas tags

You're actually not supposed to tag with the words "Christmas gift" or "Stocking Stuffer" or "Gift" simply because anything could be a Christmas Gift or a Stocking Stuffer. You're more likely to get views if tag and title you're item correctly so that the people who are looking for that item will find it.

Re: Christmas tags

Oh my! Christa! I didn't know that! I just went through and added 'stocking stuffer' to a bunch of my tiny items. :/ Darn. So much to learn!

Re: Christmas tags

Yeah, I got caught by a team on "gift" years ago. Dang. It would be nice, but like Christa said, anything can be a gift!

I do list things for Hannukah decor, though, since there is so little in that category. Not as a gift...

Re: Christmas tags

@Christa,

Can you tell me where it's stated that "stocking stuffer" and "Christmas gift" cannot be used? I guess I'm going t need to redo most of my listings.

Thanks ...

Re: Christmas tags

I use Christmas on items that are Christmas colored. Thus, they are Christmas gifts (not Birthday gifts). For example:

Re: Christmas tags

I think if an item is geared towards a specific holiday (like red and green for x-mas, or something for Thanksgiving, etc) then putting "Christmas Gift" in your tags makes sense and is totally allowed.

If you item isn't holiday specific, then I kind of feel like it shouldn't be tagged for a holiday. From a shopper's perspective, say you typed in "Christmas ___" to search...how would you feel if something not at all related to x-mas popped up in your search results.

You could still tag your items with things like "Black Friday Etsy" and "Cyber Monday Etsy" if you're going to do a special for either of those shopping days, which will help you be found when people are looking for a holiday gift.

Re: Christmas tags

We're only supposed to use titles/descriptions/tags that are specific to our item - ex:
Erin's bracelet is Christmas colors, so it can be Christmas Bracelet.

My men's shirt cannot say Gift for Dad. Anything on Etsy could be a "gift" or "stocking stuffer", and we cannot do that

Again, it must be specific to your item..

Re: Christmas tags

@The Private Collection

http://www.etsy.com/help/article/483#listings

Under Labeling Your Items...

•You should only state what the item is, not what the item may become or potential uses for the item (for example: yarn should not be labeled as "sweater," beads should not be labeled as "bracelet," small gift items should not be labeled as "stocking stuffer").

Thank you Heather! Great advice! I didn't know you were not suppose to use "gift" as a tag either!

Re: Christmas tags

Oh! I did not know that either! What if my items are in a Christmas gift box? I have some gift sets specifically for christmas, some with Christmas colors and some with generic colors. Can I tag these as gifts because they are ready to be sent as gifts?

Re: Christmas tags

The purpose of tags is to be found so tag your items the way they can be found.
Think what a customer could write on search bar and that's it.
