Change the shop name-banner-user name, good idea?

Hi all,

I would like to change my shops name and user name. I choose them randomly (user name is my real name) when I start my etsy membership. That time I had no idea about selling online. Now I don't like the name prettyturkishthnigs and I have lots of better, more creative name ideas in my mind. So I have few questions.

*Does changing the name of the shop affects sales and views?

*Is there any spesific rules about it? I checked dos and don't but maybe I missed somethnig. Do I have to mention "I was in this user name and this shop name" ...

*All hand made items are made by my aunt, should I put her name and picture. Should I add her as team member or shop owner. I am doing all internet thing because she doesn't speak english and also not so good about taking pictures and computer. So in this case how should I shape my store.

I hope someone can help me, this team is always so helpful and trustful.
Thanks in advance.
Nejat

Re: Change the shop name-banner-user name, good idea?

I changed my shop name last October. It's an easy process but be absolutely sure what you want because you can only change it once.

When you change it the little house thing next to your shop name in posts and stuff will show a tiny arrow pointing to another house thing. When someone hovers their mouse over it it'll say that you changed your shop name from PrettyTurkishThings. That won't stay there forever but it's a nice feature so people on the forums recognize you.

Changing your name does not affect your shop stats and your followers will see you with your new shop name. Any links you have posted with your old shop name will automatically reroute to the new shop name.

I don't think there's a rule that you have to disclose your old shop name but it wouldn't hurt to put something in your shop announcement. I put the info at the very bottom of my shop announcement so it's there, but it's not the main focus.

You absolutely need to disclose that your aunt is part of your shop. You have what's called a collective shop. If you look under Etsy Do's and Don'ts, Multiple People Using a Single Account, it sounds like yours would fall under the "Shop Management Help." In your shop profile you can list both your names and explain the role each of you has in the shop.

I would not change the name of the shop. I like it. Also I am not sure that the shop name matters as much as what you are selling.

The shop name seems to be working for you. I noticed that you have about 65 sale and just a few short months.

If you change it, some of your return customers might become confused. So just make sure that you highlight the name change so that they will know that the are in the same shop. By all means if it really bothers you than you should change it.

Good Luck!
