Can someone explain the purpose of posting shop item links in teams?

Dear team members,

On any given team, there are oodles of threads where shop owners post links to several items in their shop. Does this help with google ranking? I don't imagine many people actually click on the links, since it is just one person after another posting links.

I would just like to know if this helps your shop, and how?

Thank you :)
Mandy

Promotion.

If people favorite your item, that helps your relevancy. And when someone favorites your item, it goes onto their activity feed so the people that "follow" them can see your item[s], so it's potentially a chain for promotion.

These are other examples:

-If team members are creating a "team" treasury, they can browse through the items people are promoting for their treasury.

-Depending on the team...for example a "Christmas" team - there are different categories 'gifts under $20', 'for him', 'for her...some people [team members and not] browse these for gift ideas.

So it can be free promotion and beneficial.

Hope this helps.
Cheers!

It also helps with SEO I believe. If google "sees" your links all over the place when it crawls, then you can get some more relevancy on their searches.

I have been wondering the same thing Mandy, even when I post I very rarely look at the other listing but I guess I better get busy! Great question.

I post to teams here too and I'm not entirely sure it helps. I don't get many Google hits so really is it any use? I don't think it helps with Etsy relevancy.

I know that slowly but surely it has helped my items show up in searches. Everything adds up eventually. The more exposure you have, the better it is

Also, sometimes you see something cool that you wouldn't see otherwise and buy it. I have done this. I found items for gifts while listing my shop items in my team posts. It is great to buy from your team members, too. Aren't we all shoppers / customers?

@Chanchala - Posting doesn't help with relevancy, but favorites do.

Mandy - SEO experts will tell you not to worry about rank; worry instead whether you are getting search views.
Getting found on Google is based on the strength of your SEO [relevant keywords and phrases].

Re: Can someone explain the purpose of posting shop item links in teams?

I do think that any way you can get your items "shown" is a good thing. While I'm no expert, I think that the more view and hearts an item has helps it show up higher in the searches.

While I may not spend a lot of time looking at discussions/threads with other seller's items posted, occasionally I do click on something for a further look. The thing that REALLY get's me to look further? The shop icons! I can't tell you how many times I'm intrigued and what to know more about what a shop has to offer based upon that little picture.

Re: Can someone explain the purpose of posting shop item links in teams?

It has absolutely nothing to do with google ranking at all. Nor does it help with SEO.

SEO is 'Search Engine Optimization' or how easy it is for your potential buyer to find what you are selling.

But if your target market is other Etsians who are active in promo threads then continue posting links.

I've found that with over 18,000 views in the past 30 days only 729 has come from 'teams'. Teams includes views from people finding me both through the forums and in the many teams that I'm on. From that I've had a total of 0 sales.

Re: Can someone explain the purpose of posting shop item links in teams?

I promote my items to several teams and people favorited my items. I got more views and promoting on teams has bring to me two sales. I think shopper finds easier your items and other special deals you may have currently.

Re: Can someone explain the purpose of posting shop item links in teams?

Minna,

I'd suggest that you take a look at your total sales over the past 6 months and the number of views you've had during that time as well.

How many of the views came from posting in teams? How many of those team views resulted in sales?

If your target customer is shopping in team promotional threads then yes, they can work.

But in my over 950 orders comprising of over 2400 items in the past six months, only 6 of those sales have come from people finding my shop in team threads. So to me its much more profitable to reach my target market directly.

Re: Can someone explain the purpose of posting shop item links in teams?

It's mainly for promotion, so that more people will see your item. They may not buy it, but there's a chance that they will add it to their favorites, which, of course, will promote you to their followers.

Re: Can someone explain the purpose of posting shop item links in teams?

I think getting favorites for your shop and items gives a good impression to the potential customers, I post on the exchange threads, I have my doubts about how useful it can be to post in threads that are just a list of items.
