Can post office re-route a package?

I have a customer who needs a package to go somewhere other than listed. It hasn't been delivered. Can I call the post office and give them the tracking and have it re-routed? What number would I call? What have you done in this situation?

It's worth trying--I would go to a post office and talk with staff.

I had inquired about this late last year and was told that you can but that there is an expense associated with it - I'll see if I can find the link to the forum discussion!

Here it is:

My takeaway was that you can stop the package and have it sent back to you for $15, but that they can't change the address while it's in the mail stream.

Re: Can post office re-route a package?

I tried to do this during the holidays when the Post Office itself gave a bad address to both the purchaser & to me...same zip code but different town name. Nope, they couldn't - wouldn't help. Package was eventually returned. We basically had to start all over with the shipment. That little Christmas gift sure traveled a lot of miles!
