Buying my own www. domain name. any experiences?

I am going to go and do it, 6 months after I said I would: buy the .com and .co.uk for my company. Where do I go? Any one done this?

Don't use godaddy.com. I have 10-15 domains on namecheap.com. It's easy and painless.

Hi Claire, I got mine from http://ariotek.co.uk/ and it cost £6 per year for the .co.uk version. They can also provide you with .com domains and have a facility on their website for you to check if the name you want is available. Don't worry about it - it's a really easy process.

i've used godaddy for years and am a happy customer. i have no experience with other hosts - good luck with your decision, there are lots of companies to choose from who are all very reasonably priced!

you could also try a place like weebly, wordpress, etc... and buy your domain through them, as an alternative.

I bought it through godaddy after looking at several. I don't use the other features but if you plan to, then look for a host that offers the best package for what you want.

I used Namecheap.com mainly because they were cheap, and GoDaddy supported SOPA and their CEO is an elephant killer.

I was completely unaware of that info about GoDaddy and will make the switch ASAP. Thank you Jaie for bringing this to my attention!

Kelly, no problem, I usually don't get on soapboxes over stuff like this, but this was an unpalatable combo, right up there with Subway having Michael Vick as a spokesman.

(Jaie, understood! It's good to be an informed customer, so I thank you for the info! I have now read a lot of about them, and am happily removing myself as a customer of theirs!)

From what I can tell in the last several minutes, Enom seems very reasonably priced, knowledgeable, and customer-friendly! Good luck with your decision =^-^=

It's a bit pricy, but I love my website on Bravenet.

I'm so glad people are finally wising up to the slime that is GoDaddy. FYI - GoDaddy also owns Outright.

I've used Namecheap for years. Good prices and customer service, and they don't bash you over the head with upselling.

I bought mine through GoDaddy, but after reading about them, I'm thinking about switching. Those who use Namecheap, do they provide an email address with .com at the end, or is .tdl? Thanks!

Are you talking about using Namecheap as a domain registrar or web host? Domain registration does not usually include email hosting, but web hosting does. Namecheap include free email forwarding with their domain registration, but you'd need to purchase email hosting as an extra or use email hosting through your web host.

Email hosting is dependant on your domain name. So if your domain is a .com, your email would be a .com. If your domain ends with a different TLD, your email would end with that TLD.

Thanks for your response, Pixel!

Using GoDaddy to register a domain, 1 email account is included. I'll have to look at Namecheap more closely and see what it would cost to add email hosting.

123reg - .co.uk for about £3.50 a year, but most places charge you for 2 years upfront with a .co.uk because it's the cheapest.

Hi,
You cannot buy a domain you can only register a domain if you purchase it from another person then also you should register it in your name .A simple thing is to search a Domain Name Registrars where the services are good and reliable. I suggest the site http://www.9cubehosting.com/ here you can register the domain name at reasonable cost they will provide many free services including privacy protection, you can get the details hiding from others in private registration service.

Stay away from dreamhost. They've been around forever, but they frequently have site outages and the email client they use is like computing from the stone ages. The site outages are terrible, though - I couldn't imagine being their clients that run shops off that site directly. Not good.
