I can't remember what my goal bounce rate's supposed to be. I do know I want it to be lower. But what's a good target number? and, if anyone's REALLY making the most of google analytics, what types of oals am I supposed to be setting. ya know- besides actual sales!!! hahahaha!!!

But, seriously- I need to know :o)

Re: Bounce rate

Giggles,

There is no magic number of a good bounce rate. For those who are reading and don't know, your bounce rate is the rate of people who click on your shop, and then leave before they click on another page. In the real world, this would be someone who looks at a shop window at the mall, but decides not to go in. If your bounce rate is 50%, that means half of people will click around in your shop, but the other half leave before they even look at another page.

Like I said before, there is no "magic number" for your bounce rate. For some people, a bounce rate may be very low, like 30 to 50%, but they might not get sales. There is one shop that I alway look at (twigs and honey) that has beautiful photography with lovely models. I can spend 10 mintues just clicking on the pretty photos, but I do not wear those types of items, so I would never buy. Conversely, sometimes I buy supplies like ribbon (which is kind of boring in comparison to pretty models), and I would only look in the shop if I wanted to actually buy more ribbon for my crafts.

Just for Giggles, your goal should be to lower your bounce rate over time. If you have a specific goal in mind (like 30% or 40%), try to work towards it. What makes people come to your shop? Check your shop stats for your best keywords (Your Account>Shop Stats). What is the #1 tool for making people stay and click on your items? PHOTOS!!! Make sure your photos draw people in so they look around. Right now, many of your photos look like they are taken on a rumpled up bed. When I look at your shop, there is no theme tying your photos together and they are kind of random. Work on building a brand and image through your photos, and experiment with lighting and backgrounds to make your items really pop out from the page! You don't need an expensive camera or fancy props, just good lighting and a lot of patience.

Re: Bounce rate

Wonderful Advice. I am only a few months in selling here, and I think this is the first time I've checked shop stats! I hadn't realized TBH. Thanks so much for your wonderful advice!

Re: Bounce rate

Thank you, Aman! I'm not sure exactly how to group things other than categories. I'm going to try to figure it out. and I've started building a lightbox. I think a nice soft gray velvet would be a nice background. I'll have to take a weekend and go through the whole lot.

As for bounce rates, I think I'll set my goal but I won't obsess over it. What you've said makes sense. Thank you again!

Re: Bounce rate

When in doubt, Google it! Wikipedia has a nice article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bounce_rate

"It is really hard to get a bounce rate under 20%, anything over 35% is cause for concern, 50% (above) is worrying. I stress that this is my personal analysis."

From the above statement, aim for 35% and try to stay below 50%.
