I just started a blog yesterday, but for my first post I wrote what led me to open my etsy shop. If you want to look it's here:

Re: Blogs

I just started blogging this year and have a lot to learn. I am not sure how to promote it and get followers. And then yesterday I read in another team about how Google Friends Connect is going to be shut down by Google and eventually you will lose the followers you have using it. I have a lot of ideas for my blog but, I guess its like your Etsy Shop, it takes time and work to get it started! As to Stats...if you have Google Analytics you can add your blog alsol. I have my Etsy Shop and my website on my Google Analytics. Good Luck with yours....here is a link to mine..

Re: Blogs

I have been writing my blog for a few months, but it is so sporadic! I need to be a little more consistent with my writing. Often, my process for my art is so time consuming and I only feel like writing about finished projects (because any time spent blogging during the middle of it just takes time away from actually completing the piece), so there are just big spaces. But now I think I may create a rule that I will blog once a week about my updates, and only really inform people about the big news. I don't want to flood peoples' FB feeds with messages all the time about non-important writings, but I do want to have more of an online presence... I am trying to find a balance.

I do have a counter to know how many people have visited the site, but it isn't super useful. I post on Facebook about my blog, as well as inform people who will tweet it or tell other people. I don't do much promotion besides that, because I don't have my own twitter account or newsletter. Maybe in the future, but I honestly don't have enough of a fan base to justify that.
My blog is: www.eminationartistry.blogspot.com
I have since started a website: www.eminationartistry.com that has a blog section, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to put multiple photos in the blog post, so I may have to rely on the blogger website in order to really showcase my art. Or, hopefully, I'll figure out how to just have it entirely on the one website! I just like the centralized website the most.

Re: Blogs

I blog about Etsy shops, giveaways and product reviews. I also post once in awhile about new products I sell or about a sale I'm running.

Re: Blogs

Blogs can be very easy or very hard. It depends entirely on the individual. First of all, I will tell you that most importantly, you must blog about things OTHER than your shop. A lot of people don't do this. Lots blog exclusively about their shop and nothing else, and that makes it hard for people to read, which results in few followers, and, worse, losing some you already have.

First of all, think about blogs you like. What do you like about them? Personally, I like blogs that share life stories - good and bad - and tutorials, and some are quite interactive, asking you to participate in small challenges. Therefore, I try my best to make sure I do these things in my own blog. It's working for me so far. And if you create tutorials, I urge you to pin them to pinterest. I've gotten a lot of followers that way.

You have to keep it interesting. I read a really good post not too long ago about blogging. She says that you should never compare your blog to anyone else's, as there is no number of followers you have to have in order to be successful. And a point I have myself to add onto it is this: dance like no one's watching, and write like no one is reading. Don't worry about people agreeing or disagreeing with anything you have to say, if they don't like it, they don't have to read it, but it's important to be yourself, and to let people know that there's more to you than just a shop. The best thing you can do is mention your shop infrequently, unless you have a sale or some new items, but otherwise keep a mini Etsy in your sidebar. I have mine at the top of my sidebar, so when people come to my blog, they can see it easily. It's worked for me!

This is my blog: http://peachesandpebblesweekly.blogspot.com
This is the post regarding blogging: http://www.thecuriouspug.com/2012/02/advice-for-bloggers-whats-worked-for-me.html
And this is another useful post that can give you ideas of what to blog about, which I sometimes refer to myself: http://www.thecuriouspug.com/2011/05/things-to-blog-about.html

As for promoting my blog, I added the link to my business cards, to my listings, and by creating tutorials and posting them on pinterest, that also helps quite a lot. Also, if I sponsor a giveaway somewhere, I request that following my blog be counted as an entry. I might lose those followers afterwards, but it's brought my blog to their attention at any rate! When I get my blog's header made and I've bought a domain name, I'm going to start buying advert spaces on some of my favourite blogs. It's going to be expensive, so I'm only going to buy one advert slot a month, but the blogs I'll be buying from don't just stick you in their side bar, they give you a proper feature at the same time.

Good luck!

Re: Blogs

I have 2 blogs

One for my Indian inspiration and the other for design, decor travel etc.

I occasionally write about my shop in these 2 blogs, but I do features, write about my life and stuff!

I don't have a huge fan following and I really don't know who reads it but my live traffic feed does tell me people are reading my posts! So am okay with it and once in a while they do check out mini etsy bar or mini icraft bar

My first blog celebrates its first birthday today!
Take a peek here

I blog mostly about the shop, such as sneak previews, and photography and DIY projects. I'm trying to make it so I'm blogging at least once or twice a week. Apparently the more you blog, the better...but it has to be quality and I'm still working on that aspect. haha.

Re: Blogs

Blogger has stats to look at and you can see where your traffic is coming in on...This way I know if a post to other blogs FB pages or Pins these post are getting people to hit my site which can direct them to Here or a custom work sale ...

I like blogs about honest life good photos I'm a bit of a visual snob. I like good recipes...I throw some work on my blogs but try to keep it more about life and less promoting my things but I do add a few things.....I started mine this last summer and I really enjoy it and looking at other peoples blogs too...I'll take a look at everyone else's as well...

I think a Blog helps if it's something people want to look at ...as far as fan base I turned my follow icon off and I still get a good 100 hits or more a day so it's worth it to me!!

Re: Blogs

Hey all!

Let's keep the Etsy Success team forum free of self promotions like the following:

*Coupon Codes
*Links to new Treasuries
*Links to new items in your shop
*Links to your Facebook Fan Page/blogs/Pinterest pages
*Games that promote the next shop, etc.

I think we'll get the most out of the conversations here if they are focused on growing our small businesses by sharing tips, links to interesting business-related blog posts and resources. I'll close this now, thanks!
