Beware of New Shops

Especially if their prices are extremely low and they have no picture or shop policies.

At the beginning of the month as i was searching new shops to post in one of my treasuries, i found this one:

They had super cute clothes, very cheap. It seemed weird so i contact the seller and asked why all their items are 4.99 . They said it's just one day,
as you can see on their shop announcement,
'Bin Laden was killed so all items are on sale today.JUST ONE DAY.'

So i went ahead and bought 2 of them. After a few hours, they have deleted everything in their shop.
I contact them and no answer since then,
i reported them to etsy and papal, i'm still waiting for my money back.

Anyway, i think i should have looked more into their shop before purchasing.
I just thought they want to build some good feedback .

Even the sellers name sounds a little suggestive: 'wanglou' sounds like 'wangle you'

Don't worry if you payed through paypal and opened a case you'll get your $$ back, same happened to me with an ebay seller. But another thing to look out for is new sign-ups sending convo to participate on a craft show. 1st mth at etsy had convo for a local craft fair, I almost payed the $150.00 fee which was discounted supposedly for late comers, when I called the actual locale they said they hadn't heard of the company. They even had a website,which disapeared of course. What a way to damage your day right?

I know some packages takes probably more than 10 days to arrive, but the fact that i didn't get any answer back, and all their items were gone, and also they provided a false Tracking number just minutes away after my purchase, all these transformed my doubts into certainty .

Hi and sorry to hear what happened and hope that it all works out well for you.

I have a new shop and as you can hopefully see I make my own products and am building a business and hope that this does not reflect badly on all new shops.

I'm sorry you've had a bad experience, it's a horrible feeling to be scammed. I know your motive here is probably to try to warn others, but just so you know we're not supposed to post about our transactions in the forums.

I have to say though that I'm actually quite astonished that anyone would have a "'Bin Laden was killed" sale - personally I find that in very bad taste :/

I also wanted to make the point (in reference to the title) that the large majority of new shops are run by wonderful, talented and thoroughly decent human beings!

I think we all have to be aware of the bad apples in the bunch and that it doesn't spoil it for the rest of us.

Interesting. I've been wondering about shops I've seen that are offering "sea glass" earrings for 20 cents. I can't imagine how they can offer this price. It takes me so long to find and match the sea glass in my designs, and then to create with sterling or gold filled wire. What do you think?

Luckysea -- if they CAN afford to sell them for 20 cents then there are definitely some labor issues there! The other thing to remember about Etsy is that it's meant for suppliers, handmade, and vintage sellers so anything that looks like it's been manufactured (or priced like wholesale, even though 20 cents would still be too low for wholesale!) should be reported to Etsy. The more people who are playing it off like they're a handmade seller but in actuality are not discredit those of us who do value quality, craftsmanship, fair pay and 'buying local' ... even though sometimes we can be around the world from each other!

Good lesson to keep our eyes and ears peeled for people who are playing the system! I hope you get your money back from Paypal promptly.

Not necessarily. If there's no money left in their paypal account you won't see a dime. I know. It happened to me with a seller that I purchased from and then she disappeared. And it wasn't a new shop. Don't know what happened but I had purchased before with no issues. It no longer exists now.

That's horrible. I just recently had a shop add me to their circle and I hope I don't offend anyone but it was sorta creepy and similar to your situation. They added me had a close up of their abs in their profile pic like I was on match.com I had to check the site to make sure I was still on etsy and I went to check out their store to see if they were legit and the first time they had some items listed I checked a bit later and all their items were erased. It was bizarre and I didn't add them and removed them from my circle.

I have all the respect for new shops, i've been there myself , and i ordered before from new sellers and i had no problem.
I'm sorry if it was interpreted that way.

Also i didn't know we are not allowed to talk about transactions, im not sure if this seller is planning to return that's why i wanted to warn other people.
