Banner Issues

Does anyone have trouble resizing their banner to make them fit on Etsy?

Is it 760x100 that is the size to fit on Etsy?

With those numbers, it is difficult to photograph my subject, then zoom in on an editing program so the subject is visible. By that time, I have to crop/resize, which cuts off part of my subject.

Also, my current banner is extremely pixelated. Ideas on how to make my banner smoother and more appealing?

Thanks.

Re: Banner Issues

Being a small shop with no budget to have a professional banner created, I physically make a banner and then photograph it - once cropped it fits into the banner area pretty well. It is what works for me right now.

Re: Banner Issues

Thanks, Kim Brooks. Does cropping it to 760x 100 work? Are those the numbers that work well with Etsy?

I've tried this and my picture comes out pixelated.

Re: Banner Issues

Hi Monique, 760 x 100 works. I use that size too. I make a high resolution photo, or image, 300 dpi, crop the image 760 x 100 pixels and then I change the resolution to 72 dpi and save for web, maintaining highest quality. This way my work stays sharp.

Re: Banner Issues

Kim that is an awesome idea! Monique, what type are you saving your image as? Etsy will reformat your image from whatever you upload it as, to a (slightly lower than usual quality) jpg. This proved difficult for a banner like mine with such sharp contrast as the jpg format is less than ideal. It would have been nice if they kept it with a png.

Looking just now at your banner they smaller font will end up getting pixelated a bit within Etsy's jpg settings. Make it bigger & bolder. That is what all those little pixelated dots around the text are from.

Sadly, the jpg format just isn't made for non photographic images, and it is something that Etsy really should consider changing.
