Backgrounds for Photos

What is your preferred background for your photos and why?

I am looking to get a white background for photos shoots and was wondering what others use.

And if you take a peek at my shop let me know if you think white will be best or would a setting for a background (restaurant, party, street scene) be better.

Thanks!

Re: Backgrounds for Photos

For your product, definitely either white or black because those scarves are gorgeous in color and you really want that to "pop" out. I almost exclusively use a white background because it draws attention solely to the product giving it more allure.

For your products, Elizabeth, definitely white or neutral, non-distracting background. Your work is beautiful!!

I use a off-white background as my greeting cards are photos mounted on white blank cards, so they don't blend in completely with the background, and you can still see the white card border around the photos.

I prefer white backgrounds but I do love your model photos. Those photos don't necessarily have to be the first picture but keep them in.

Definitely the plain background - let the attention be on your beautiful scarves and ties. The black background can work for some but I don't think I would use it for all your items. My preference is the white.

Re: Backgrounds for Photos

I agree with the white background, but would add an occasional first photo of someone wearing your scarf, like this one you already have:

Some customers find it hard to imagine what our products look like 'in action'. And it also helps as a size reference.

I use a canvas painters drop cloth. Very inexpensive at home depot. Take a look.

Re: Backgrounds for Photos

I use a white background on all my photos it give a universal clean look throughout my shop which i like. i think opinion is devided on this one, I personally feel that if you have bright colors like I do for my toys that they show up best on a white background, some say that a scene set would be best, think its up to you. One thing i do think though is a universal look through out your shop is more pleasing to the eye on first glance...
