Avatar/Profile Pics

I used to use my logo as my main profile pic, but I read in one of Etsy's blogs/discussions that the profile picture should show [somewhat] your products so i changed it. I understand that i'm relatively new and that it DOES take time [and $$$] to get started and make sales etc but i really want to start this right. So.. what should the profile pic be or does it really matter either or?

Re: Avatar/Profile Pics

I really do think your avatar should be something you sell. Every time you comment on a thread or make a treasury, new people see your avatar. If it's something you sell it may interest people to go look at your shop, it at least gives them an idea of what you create. I don't know if it brings in the cash but I will often visit a store if the avatar pulls me in. And although I'm a seller, I'm also a buyer! Hope this helps :)

Re: Avatar/Profile Pics

I use a photo of myself as my avatar, so buyers can put a face to my shop. I think it personalizes the relationship, they can see who they are working with and buying from.

Re: Avatar/Profile Pics

Oh oh, if that's what the Focus Group said, then I'm in BIG trouble, because I have a very plain and boring Avatar....as you can see.

Unfortunately, I'm very attached to it.

Where ever I post, I can always see my Avatar immediately, because of that Teal color.

I guess I can always change it later on...

I have seen so many gorgeous Avatars though.

EXAMPLES:

SunnyLeeStudio = Lovely and soothing Avatar. Very appropriate to what you sell . :-)

HobbiesfromtheHeart = I love your Avatar....It's colorful, different, personalized.

"WelovecraftyTracey" = Beautiful photo of a beautiful lady. Lovely!

Sincerely,
L2Country

Re: Avatar/Profile Pics

When I started I had a pic of me. I also read that it should be what you make. So I bought a wooden Treasure chest and painted it, filled it with my own jewelry and photographed it. I have used the pink flowers on my business cards and everything else associated with Tink's since day 1, so I had a designer on etsy combine these & create my banner & avi. This was very inexpensive. I love it and feel that it is bright and pretty and represents my Co. well. Any critique is welcome. Always willing to learn & update :-)

Re: Avatar/Profile Pics

I also agree with having your product as the main thing people see, it's helpful when you are shopping if you don't have to guess what each vendor is selling. But do wish that we could post a separate profile picture of ourselves, it helps if people can identify with a real person.

Re: Avatar/Profile Pics

I posted this earlier. I'm at a loss.

Hi guys,
looking for a little input regarding avatars.
Currently I use my logo. Issue is, out of context, it doesn't tell you anything about my shop.

So...
1. Should I continue to use my logo?
2.Use a photo of myself? ( I blog and use my life and lifestyle as part of my brand)
or
3. A photo of my product (have lots of great tomato photos)

Also should it be the same everywhere? My twitter is tomato heavy, on google and blog comments it's the dog logo.

What do you do and why? Are you consistent? Thanks!

Re: Avatar/Profile Pics

Hey cubits, I'm really excited to get my seeds :) I use the same avatar everywhere, I feel like it's easier to recognize a picture than a name. Your veg photos are so beautiful that I'd use one as an avatar if I were you. I am toying with the idea of having a photo if myself painting as the last photo slot in each listing, since as a previous poster pointed out we can't have a separate profile pic. Maybe you could do that with your logo if you do decide to become a tomato? :)
Anyone have thoughts on that idea?

Re: Avatar/Profile Pics

Thanks Sunny!
I do include the logo in a photo slot in my listings as well as a package shot so I think I'm covered. Now to pick the new photo....

Re: Avatar/Profile Pics

I agree with showing products in your avatar..because that is what you are here to sell! I read a blog too about showing the artists face as the avatar to make it more personal since shoppers see our banner and can see our list of products...but that's only once they are in our shop! So, throw a few photos of yourself in some of your ads as photo number 5 proudly displaying that fabulous ring, or bootie or picture you just painted or you in your studio...but your Avatar should be the thing in threads, forums, discussions, that make people say "ooooohhh..what is she selling in her shop?" Can you tell by my Avatar what I sell in mine?

Re: Avatar/Profile Pics

DebraDivineDesigns - I agree with you, good advice! Hmmm, in your avatar at first glance though I thought it was a butterfly wing? Now that I look more closely...a necklace right?

Re: Avatar/Profile Pics

Great thread!
So I'm going to be some tomatoes for a few days :)
I'm still debating being me, I have some great photos but the tomatoes feel right.

The butterfly necklace is beautiful and I clicked right away.
