Any Advice on How to Photograph Blankets?

I'm very new to forums and still quite new to promoting my Etsy shop. So please bear with me, I don't even know if this is the best place to ask this question.

I know pictures sell your items but I am having trouble taking good pictures that show blankets I make. For babies, I no longer have a baby or a crib to model blankets. If I fold them up, you can't see the entire blanket. Any advice?

Thank you in advance!

I don't sell blankets and all I can suggest is look at others that sell them and see how they photo them.

I don't sell blankets either, but think the photo you have with the blanket draped over the foot of the iron bed is nice. I know that's toddler sized, but you could probably do that with a baby blanket too. It may even work to the product's advantage because then the buyer would get a sense of scale pretty much immediatetly. I would suggest you crouch down a little bit more though. The first photo is at somewhat of an awkward angle IMO.

I've also seen people take some great photos of quilts and other blankets by having them hanging on a clothesline or even spread out on couches or grass. I hope this helps a bit. Best of luck to you.

Thank you for taking a look and giving me feedback. It is very helpful to know how others see pictures.

I like the idea of a clothes line, unfortunately don't have one. I do have coat hooks, perhaps I'll try that.

You could drape them over a drying rack if you have one, but draping them on the end of the youth bed is fine.

No drying rack, but I have looked at others shops and found some ideas that I like and will try such as draping on a rocking chair or a junior chair. Hoping to redo some of my photos this week. Thank you for your help, anymore advice is welcome!

Re: Any Advice on How to Photograph Blankets?

Hi Sheila,
I have put them on my bed and stood on a ladder to get an above view. I've also clothespinned them to some trees in my yard etc. As for baby quilts - if it was me, I wouldn't hesitate to take them to the nearest baby store or Target -anywhere with cribs set up, put them in a shopping cart and go right in and photograph them. If anyone questions you - just say you're sending a pic to your sister or friend to see if she likes this crib with "her" baby quilt. Throw a couple of stuffed animals in the crib too;-)

Thanks, Jewel. I would never have thought of taking them to a store, you are quite resourceful!
