Adding new items

HI all,
How do you all feel about adding new items, do you add new items once a week, twice a week. What is your protocol? What are the advantages of adding items every week? How many new items do you add? I am thinking about posting my nightlights as well in my shop, good or bad idea?
Thank you
Jennifer

I'll add new items whenever I have them ready to list. I don't have a specific timetable at all.
Right now I have 25 items waiting to be listed and another 15 that need the photos done. I'll probably finish listing the 25 before the weekend is out and if i had charged the battery on the camera yesterday when I was supposed to, I would have completed my photo shoot today. But now it will have to wait until Tuesday again.
If the items aren't listed, they cannot be sold!

Re: Adding new items
Cool stuff in your shop! Post the nightlights for sure. I have an art glass nightlight in my bathroom that has stood guard for many years but is falling apart. I agree that items need to be listed to be sold, and wish that I too could have 25 items waiting to be listed and another 15 waiting to be shot. But, hey, we all have a lot of demands on our time. Just do what you can.

Re: Adding new items
Jennifer--don't wait to list. It's better (in my opinion) to list in a sprinkle than save them up for a downpour.

This listing is confusing. I would separate them into one listing each design.
Good luck!

Re: Adding new items
I tend to make a few new styles over the weekend, then sprinkle them throughout the following week, as Bev said!
If I don't happen to have a new item because of time, I tend to relist my oldest one (which aren't too old, as I haven't been open that long to begin with :) ) but I read a few times in the forums that it is beneficial to renew as it allows you to stay more visible in searches....not sure how true that actually is. So I'll continue to experiment!
I say definitely to adding your nightlights!
Hope you have a fab & successful weekend!

Re: Adding new items
I am definitely a binge poster. Find it hard to avoid these "downpours". It's a time management issue for me. I often spend a week or more at my bench working on similar items, let's say rings. The photography incl. editing often takes a whole day. And the same goes for posting the items. I feel that doing just one piece start to finish would be less efficient time wise. But that's just the way I work.
I totally see your point though, Bev and Ashley, as I notice some more activity after posting new items. I am relatively new here and really appreciate tips like these.
And Jennifer, yes definitely post the night lights :-)

Re: Adding new items
Jennifer - this is off the subject but if I were you I would have all four "featured" spots filled with a listing. With just one listing featured you have all that blank white area in your shop right where you want people to see all the beautiful items. jmho

Re: Adding new items
Bev,
Yes, I love it! Still have my day job, but it sure would be nice to one day be a full time Etsian.
Oh, and I just discovered you guys have a featured items page. I have lots to learn :-)

Thanks everyone
I will do the night lights for sure. Sandy, I am so new to etsy what do you mean about the four featured spots? Is it on my about page?
I will take pictures of the night lights this weekend and add them to the shop during the week.
Thanks again everyone

Re: Adding new items
Jennifer- I sell vintage items so I like to keep my shop at 2 pages. I do it every month. I see what is going to e[ire and then see if its worth re-listing or is it time for new stock. You kind of have to think what your goal is and also the season. Good Luck : ) Rebecca

Hi Jennifer, thank you for asking this question as I wondered the same thing. I'm fairly new to Etsy, and I am always learning something new. Also, thanks to Ashely, I'm now learning that it's a good idea to repost fairly current listings so that they are visible during searches. I will def. be using this piece of advise as well as everyone else's advise of spinkling items to ones listings. Thank you everyone for sharing!

Re: Adding new items
I list when I have items ready. Sometimes there are two items sometimes more. I usually create in groups rather than one piece and list one piece. But I do not collect my items to list in a big group.

Re: Adding new items
I list whenever I can which is not near often enough! Like Crochetgal I have a bunch of new items to list, at least 35, but I can't seem to find the time to take the photos. I also hate taking photos outside in the cold. It will be easier when it warms up. So no schedule, just whenever I find the time. Darn day job!

I like to space out my listings, with a maximum of 2 per day. When I was launching a new product last month, I did two or three a day consistently for about a week to build up my stock, but have now slowed to a steadier pace (one every other day or so).
For those of you who don't have time, leading you to binge post, you could always do all of your listings in one go when you're free, and save them as drafts. That way, you could still list one each day (or however often you want). It takes just a few clicks to publish a draft listing, and it's even more convenient if you have the Sell on Etsy app!
