A question about blogging

Hi Team!
As a new seller, I don't have any experience in etsy, and don't know about social media promotion very well. I have heard that blogging can be a good way to promote your shop, do you think that's true? Does blogging help? If it does, what kind of blogs takes more views? Is there anyone who improved business with blogging?

By the way, I dont have a blog yet, it will be a new one. Should I give it a try?

Re: A question about blogging

I've only recently started blogging 2 months ago, but I've noticed that my social presence has increased a bunch since I have something to share other than listings. I've also been able to network with a few people because of my blog. I can see how it's a good investment, but it's a SLOW burn. Of my few sales, half are from my blog exposure.

I would suggest blogging about something you love doing and don't mind writing about consistently. I blog about art tutorials, art books, and cool artists I find.

You can start off for free at tumblr, wordpress, or blogger.

HTH,
Roux

Re: A question about blogging

If you are going to blog, you need to blog more than just your shop. Think of it this way: If you are having trouble getting people to visit your shop, you are probably going to have trouble getting people to visit your blog, especially if your blog is only shop related.

Better advice is to find bloggers who already have a large following of your target demographic and reach out to them about your shop, maybe with a giveaway or a review of some sort.

Re: A question about blogging

I blog on my own website but have had a hard time getting people to look at it. I like the idea of finding a blog that's already got followers and ask them for help. I tried to do a giveaway on my own blog and had only friends enter it. Oops. :) You live and learn!

Re: A question about blogging

Thanks for replies! I want to make an alternative fashion blog which is etsy findings based, not only my shop but another shops as well, some pieces from infamous indie designers, some diy ideas and tutorials, my creation stories, local fashion trips etc. Do you think that works? I wouldn't blog about my shop only neither because it's boring and nothing so much to tell.

Re: A question about blogging

I actually unfollow blogs that are purely self-promotional. I think you have some great post ideas, Winushka.

@Wendy, if you need some exposure I'd try using StumbleUpon. That combined with Twitter helps me get over 1k views a day and I just started blogging in May.
