Announcing our First Study

Hi everyone,

Earlier today we invited some of you to participate in our first study.

If you were one of the people who had a chance to participate, please let us know if you encountered any trouble with the study or the invitation process in the thread below.

If you didn't get an invite, don't worry. There will be more studies soon.

I would like to give a little feedback about the study:

The search terms you used were very general and do not represent the way I search the site. If I did, and got the results you presented, I would quickly narrow down the search to refine the results. If other people search the site with these single words, I don't know how they would ever find what they're looking for!

Its certainly an annoyance of a study like this that the queries aren't necessarily very realistic for each person taking part. The queries we used on this one were randomly sampled from some of the most often used queries on the site.

I would like to think that if these are common search terms, that they are the initial ones a shopper uses -- before he/she realizes that it needs to be narrowed down.

That would be an interesting study in itself: to track a series of search terms a shopper uses to find what they are looking for.

I didn't get an email on the 31st to tell me that I had a convo about the study, but I did get an email today to tell me I had a convo about another study. I checked my settings and the right boxes were checked. Nothing in my spam folder either. Weird.

Do people participating in this study send information to you without posting, because this looks like a small study sample if only the above participated. I guess I am not certain how the results work.

I did a study 3 days ago, but not sure if it's part of the 1st one you are referring to here? Also, not sure if you are looking for feedback on the study itself, or just want to know if we incurred problems?

It seems to still be active as I got an invite to do a study today. I completed the study and then used my gift card to by something fun for myself.

Totally forgot about this team. I subscribe to the digest so new posts show up in my email and this the first one in a couple of months. I've got more time now the holidays are over.

it probably would have been counterproductive to do any tests over the holidays, since it's most definitely not a "business as usual" time on etsy. best to wait until the frenzy of shopping is over and then get to digging into it when things are in a more normal state - you'll get better results.

The reason I asked... I know some people who are not on this team who have been asked to take part in a study. Which made me wonder if this team is "done".

Faro and Gypsy, when were you invited? I got the invite well into November and its been dead here since.

I keep an eye on it, hoping it will reactivate.
