I have only been in Etsy a little over a month now, but I can honestly say that I have wasted around 60 hours doing the wrong things to my tags, tittles and description with no changes to my views from search and categories.

I believed every myth that is going around here (like the "first three words are all that counts" ) and did receive almost zero visit to my page from search and categories.

So thank you all so much:) I still have a lot to do, and trying to learn as much as I can but really I feel like I'm going into right direction now.

ditto on that my friend :) i listed myself as spham listening to these other seo myths placing "feather hair extension" at keyword position 1 and those products went to the back of the line.

I started writing more clever "blue grizzly feather hair extension" then long string BAM sales:)

i love the following " myth " :
not only are the first 3 words important,
the 1st word is the most important & should be what your item is & list these words in order of importance.

therefore, we see some interesting " disjointed " words & string of words,
and I fell for that too for a while.
can you imagine my listing title used to be:
>> earrings hoop silver tiny
or ( my other crochet pattern shop ) pattern crochet bag flower easy red

like talking backward !!!

i have now corrected ALL my titles / listings so I am moving in the right direction:)

It took over three weeks for Google to pick up my new titles, tags and descriptions, but it was worth the wait! I am receiving SO much more views from Google than I used to and couldn't be more happy about it:) I thing that my vies from Google have gone up to over 200% after I focused on CEO!

I agree as to the value of the booklet Pasi. I got mine only a couple days ago and will spend some time digesting it putting the information to use. With a week's vacation break (Darn!) I hope to have my shop more visible by the end of Apr. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I like that the book is easy to understand and especially that Mary is available to answer questions from this team.

I finally decided to buy Mary's SEO guide shown in the OP, as I'm getting very little traffic via searches, the majority is direct to my shop. Although I've read a number of posts with regards titles and tags within this team, I just couldn't get it to "click", but reading through Mary's guide I think I'm finally starting to understand some of this SEO stuff. I've just redone three of my listings ~

When searching using "rose quartz pendant" went from page 12 to page 1: http://www.etsy.com/listing/93897378/rose-quartz-pendant-in-sterling-silver

When searching using "rose quartz necklaces" went from beyond page 30 (I have no idea exactly what page it was on I gave up at 30) and is now on page 2:

When searching using "rose quartz necklaces" went from beyond page 30 to page 2, and using "pink crystal necklace" went from beyond page 20 to page 1:

None of these listings would easily have been found before as they were too buried. So a big thanks to Mary! It's without a doubt the best money I've spent so far on my business. Now I've just to go and do the same and update all of my other listings!

Seriously? The order of the words in the title doesn't matter at all? So what does matter? Just using good search words?
I paid someone for a shop critique and was told to use the first 3 words for the most important thing. This is blowing my mind now...

keyword phrases are important , very important in the title
just do not write it backward ...
do not go like this >> earrings dangle silver bead blue

do it like this >> silver dangle earrings
you know, common sense :)
but I just read in the main forum how this seller said she sells a lot & she " show " another shop this is how she "should" write the title ......
in some
disjointed order :)

Thank you Grace :-) I write my title in a way that makes sense, but I did change the order of the phrases I use in all my titles beacuse of the advice I got. Changes like:
Silver Necklace - Running Man Silhouette Pendant
Instead of something like:
Running Man Silhouette Pendant - Sterling Silver Necklace

The keyword phrase "pendant necklace" is very popular in searches on Google. Add the word "necklace" right after "pendant" should improve the views for this listing. Also add exactly "pendant necklace" to one of the listing tags.
