Link value on redirected URLs

Mary, my own URL for my stand alone shop is from godaddy and it used to be redirect to Etsy but now it's redirected to my supadupa shop. I just noticed this as I was wandering their FAQS and I'm not sure what it means. Before I ask them I wanted to get your opinion so that I ask the right question. This is the FAQ:

Will I increase my Google rankings by having multiple domain names?

No, you will not increase your Google rankings by using multiple domain names. Your SupaDupa boutique has one Primary domain name, that any additional domains you own can redirect to, but it is the primary domain that Google will consider in its ranking factors.

This is done so that you are not penalized for having multiple identical sites and so that Google does not get "confused" about which one is the Primary or authoritative site.

Does this mean that I should be creating all of my backlinks using their URL instead of mine? Geez, I hope not.

Lord I want to help you so bad. But can't :) I am still learning how to domain forward hahaha.

I'm sure that if I go back and forth a few times between supadupa and godaddy I'll figure it out and know which to use for a backlink. I don't care if I have to use their format when I can build the link myself and hide it but I'm not at all happy about having to go back and change dozens and dozens of links, not to mention that if supadupa dies I go back to zero on link value if I'm understanding this correctly.

Anyway, stand-alone sites are outside of the scope of this team so I'm on my own for this one. I'll figure it out.

Use your own domain name when building links.

The question about multiple domain names has nothing to do with redirecting your own supadupa shop to your own domain name .

This is what the mistaken idea about multiple domain names is about:
Website owners sometimes think that buying up many domain names and pointing them all to their actual web site will help them in search engine rankings. Multiple domain names without a real web site with content has absolutely no value in the search engine rankings.

I was approached by a new prospective client who proudly told me that he had 100 of his own domains pointing to his web site. He thought this was SEO and was helping his web site. He was quickly told that is expensive endeavor was worthless for SEO.

Can you imagine the cost of renewing this many domain names each year? Some of the SEO myths on the Internet cost the unsuspecting a lot of time and money.

Thanks Mary. It makes sense now that I read it again in that context. I wasn't even willing to pay for the .net or .org versions of mine. It's a pretty unique name and there was nothing close out there.
