Length of shop name and google search.

I was trying to help a friend.. Am I getting this correct?

'One thing to consider is Google only takes about 64 chars of your listing title. Of those 64 chars it includes your shop name. So the smaller your shop name the more of your listing is used by google search.
You can see how this works in the google preview that shows up when you are creating a listing. My shop name is really long so I am going to change it to something shorter. I could get at least another keyword in that way. '

I didn't know it counted your shop name! Our name is long as well.

Google does not shorten anything. Google does read your whole listing title.

Here is what happens, though:
Etsy copies the first 45 - 64 characters or so of your listing title into the title tag. The title tag is for the search engines like Google and is not visible on the Web page. This is the part of your title that is usually visible on Google searches when you search for any listing in your shop. Placing your best keyword phrases at the beginning of the title ensures that it will be moved into the title tag and see on Google searches.

Google does see your whole listing title, though, just the way humans do.

Etsy does the same thing with the shop name.

This is how your shop name looks to Google:

<title> Victorian Jewelry Crystal Jewelry Gemstone by Gildingonthelilies</title>

As you can see, Etsy cuts off the last word, "jewelry" from the title tag.

Google does see the whole shop title elsewhere on the web page but you probably want to make sure your keywords are visible in the title tag.

You can find the title tag for every page of your Etsy shop by clicking on an empty space on the web page and then clicking on "View Page Source" or "View Source" in the drop down menu. The title tag is about 15 lines down from the top.

So what is your suggestion regarding commas in ones title and shop announcement? This is an area that confuses me.

Always use a space before or after the comma and the titles will be fine. Use commas as you normally would in the shop announcement text.

Thanks Mary for the info on finding the title tags for the shop pages. I never knew that. So what am I looking for as to what the title tag should say?. I am so new to this but your info always helps me.

that are suitable for your particular item.
