Help Sellers Find Keywords for Listing Titles and Item Tags - PLEASE Read Instructions Before Posting


As you all know, listing titles and listing tags are very important for having our items found by potential customers.

A lot of sellers are having a tough time coming up with suitable KEYWORDS for listing titles and tags so let’s help each other.

HOW DOES THIS THREAD WORK?

First you MUST SUGGEST TAGS for the 1-3 items posted in this thread JUST BEFORE YOUR POST Include a link to the listing you are making tag suggestions for by
Clicking on the link to the item
Copying the page URL
Pasting the URL into your post.

THEN, you post a link to ONE of your listings that you want tag suggestions for. If you don't see any item you can help with, you MUST WAIT until you see an item you can help with. You cannot post without helping.

Some things to remember:
- Tags can have a maximum of 20 characters. Longer keyword phrases used in the listing title can be divided into more than one listing tag.
- Multi word tags work better then single word tags. The more combinations of important search words, the higher your items will show up in search results.
- Don't be afraid your suggestions won't be 'good enough'. All suggestions are good! The seller decides which ones she/he will use.
- This game does not have a specific following order.
- Start your tag suggestions by linking to the item, to avoid confusion.
--Please read the listing before suggesting tags as it helps to see what the person already has so you can suggest changes and additions. Also read the suggestions already made.
- Please join us and have fun!

People have wondered how, if they have trouble with their own tags, they can possibly help someone else. It’s because we often have tunnel vision concerning our own work and can’t see possibilities but, by looking as a buyer at someone else’s item, we can see how to make changes to someone else’s listing. It does work. It’s also good training for looking at OUR item critically.

Just a thought...can/would you tag it "sewing pattern" to get it in with a section sewers would look at?

Tina - since I sew everyday of my life, the first thought I had would have been to be using tags that go with sewing.

I am not sure about "funny pincushion", I would lean more towards "cute pincushion".

Tina - I opened up the link to this item in your shop - some of the things you are missing in your listings -
Every word in your title should be repeated word for word in your description, and again in your tags. From what I have read from some of the leaders in this group, those title words should be repeated in the exact order in your description and again in your tags. Then move on to being more elaborate in your description, enticing someone to read further.
Once you have used the words in your title in your tags, you can then break them down into other tags, using those same words but moving them around a bit.
Take a look back in this thread and read info from some of the other leaders (more experienced than me)

Puja - First let me say, your work is beautiful

When I read through this thread, I first look at the photo - see what pops into my head first. I would probably not refer to this as a" kettle" although many would, so keep that word in your title, tag and description.
I would say -
Teapot
Hand painted teapot
Red teapot
Yellow teapot
Green teapot
Teapot and glasses
Kitchen Kettle
Kitchen accessories

This is what I have found in my regular business as an interior designer...woman will search for an item for their home by color. They are usually looking for something that will compliment the other colors in their rooms. So for this listing use the colors in your title, tags and description.

Be sure to use the same words, word for word for your title and in your first paragraph of the description of the items. Use those same words for the tags, in that order. When you have additional tags to fill, mix up the words that you have used in your title.

Try those descriptive words for at least a month, if you are not seeing results, then try new words.

I love this item. Although, honestly, when I first saw it, I thought it was specifically to put stamps in if you collect them. I needed to read the description before I realized where the 'stamps' came in. That's the tricky part of our job; as the stamps are key and absolutely have to be mentioned as it's what makes your journals unique, but the purpose/function I guess has to be equally clear.
