Shipping Upgrades for International Sellers.

Hi all - any light shone on this would be gratefully received :)

Etsy has now added shipping upgrades that are available from the shopping cart which sounds great.

Except I cant see how it would work for me - I do expedite shipping via International Courier but there are three different rates.
- My own country quite cheaply.
- Most countries I can ship via Economy Courier
- Less accessible countries have to go out via Express Courier at a much higher rate.

Problem - there is nothing (that I can see) to stop a buyer from choosing a cheaper rate at checkout... and then I have to go through all the palaver of contacting them to pay the extra Money involved.

Question - am I missing something here or has the Shipping Upgrade been set up to suit US sellers only at this stage??

If you don't add the shipping upgrades to your shipping profiles then buyers won't get any choice for upgrades. It will be the price you entered for the listing.

Thanks Natalie - I would actually love to be able to add the shipping upgrades to every listing. Just can't find a way of doing it that is foolproof!

It's not. Like you, I have a few different options based on country. I like having the upgraded shipping built in because it saves all the trouble with someone needing something quickly and time differences. Right now, my European buyers are charged too much and my Australian buyers too little. I can't see a way around it. I could adjust it and separate out the services for each country but if someone checks out and picks the cheaper upgraded shipping to Europe while they're in Australia I can't stop them. To avoid the headache I'm just working on averages for upgraded shipping at the moment.

? Do you mean shipping upgrades cannot be specified per country, just like regular shipping rates. That seems odd.

I've been dreading this for years. I have my shipping down to a science and never lose or overcharge.... I'm hoping that we'll still be able to offer a flat rate shipping.

VogueVixens - yes you can specify shipping upgrades to each country but at checkout the buyer chooses their country from a drop down. They are able to choose whichever they want, not necessarily the correct on. It's painful.

Thanks people. Addy, you confirmed my perception - I can't see any way around this. I'm going to keep going with a separate listing in my shop for a shipping upgrade. It works but is a bit tedious for buyers.

Janne, thanks! At the moment I have a 10 week old kitten who is trying to play as I list. She doesn't yet get that drooling is just a figure of speech and people don't actually want their antique chains with kitten drool on them!

I think Etsy will continue to improve their shipping. It's such a big deal and so many sellers request it, but even getting a blanket shipping upgrade seemed a long time coming :( Here's hoping!
