Hi everyone,

My name is Bianca and I'm new to this team. Nice to meet you!

Something that recently kick-started my Etsy shop makeover is a craft/art/design blog. Blogs are free to start with Blogger (connected to Google), and you can get a surprising amount of exposure that way (post it to your Facebook, email a link to your friends and family to share, etc.).

Most importantly, though, it's a huge source of motivation and you can treat it sort of like a "craft diary" in order to see your own progress and track how many hours you put into what you make.

Wow, lots of cool stuff here! :) I've followed the blogs posted above, but I'm not sure how to do that with the House of Stark blog (LOVE the natural products theme! I actually wash my hair with baking soda once in a while, very clarifying). It's bookmarked, at least!

Wow Additions, love your stuff. How do you get so much traffic in your blog. Some one mentioned to me that in order to get traffic I should try and get published, is this true?

GoldenSilhouette, your blog reminds me of how it's a huge inspiration to tack up pictures of things you love in your craft space so that you always stay inspired. Beautiful photography, very cool stuff!

It's so cool that so many Etsy-ans have blogs, it's a neat way to connect and also to see how different sellers work in unique ways. I'm really enjoying viewing all the different sites being posted here!

Magnetkmania, your website is awesome! If you spend a lot of time working on it (looks like you do), then a blog is probably not necessary.

The only reason a blog may be something to invest time in is if you want a publicly viewable space where you list many of your interests and inspirations and make it possible for people to comment/critique your work. But if you keep a private work journal or your workspace provides lots of inspiration already and you've gotten into a groove, then just stick with the website.

I honestly don't know how much it helps. I notice a slight increase in views in my etsy shop on days that I blog, but not much and I can't track any sales directly to blogging. One thing to keep in mind is that in order for a blog to help increase exposure to your shop, people have to read it. Which means you have to promote your blog in order to make it a successful blog, and sometimes I think it is better to spend that time promoting and working on your shop.

That being said, I enjoy working on my blog. I see it as a way to "pay it forward" and help other etsy sellers get a little bit of exposure. I very rarely blog about my own store, although I've started doing posts about works in progress. Instead I blog about other awesome handmade things that I find for sale.

Oh my gosh PixieProps, those recipes look so good! It's so difficult to take good food photos, too. The choc chip banana bread is making me hungry.

Having fun while blogging is a huge plus. It's time to take a break when it starts to feel like a chore, methinks.

Well, personally I think a blog is a good idea as it is something you can update and keep your readers interested in. The unwritten rule is that you have to keep posting at least once a week and every 3 days would be ideal. A facebook page or Twitter would be an easier idea as you just have to write a few lines and not an entire well researched post. I have a facebook page which is liked by an average of 3-5 people a day. I do not know if that is huge. My blog is about 8 months old now, do check it out: http://www.crochetdreamz.blogspot.com

I find blogging to be therapeutic in the same way that creating anything is therapeutic...you start with nothing, and out of that, create something you enjoy and that hopefully others will enjoy as well. The hard part is getting people to read it...it can be a little nerve wracking sometimes because it's like opening up to total strangers. Actually, it's exactly like opening up to total strangers!
I'm really loving everyone's blogs, btw! There's so much talent and amazing people on Etsy...it's amazing.

Also, thank you to those who checked out my site and subscribed to my RSS feed...you're making google analytics way more fun to play with today! ;)
