Craft Party DIY Inspiration on the Etsy Blog

Jump to solution
Hi folks!

If you're unsure of what craft you'd like to do for Craft Party this year, we published a DIY on the Etsy Blog today that may give you some ideas: http://etsy.me/1RaIYtF

If you're planning on attending a Craft Party near you, share your creations and with the community by tagging your social media posts with @etsy #craftparty

If you're a host and you're planning on doing this craft for Craft Party, feel free to share the DIY with the people that are planning on attending your event.

I'm excited to see what kinds of paper crafts you'll be making this year!

Yours truly,
Clare

Hi all,

I've seen a couple questions in this thread about DIYs for Craft Party. The paper weaving DIY that is up on the Etsy blog (http://etsy.me/1RaIYtF) is our suggested craft for this year. If you're sourcing images to print for the DIY, I would recommend searching right here on Etsy by looking for digital downloads. If you aren't inclined to print out images for your guests, or ask them to bring their own images, you can of course come up with your own variation of the craft by using recycled paper, such as old magazines - or do a completely different craft altogether!

There are lots of paper crafts out there. You can start by searching on the Etsy blog here: https://blog.etsy.com/en/category/make/

Still looking for a craft? I'm currently working on something that might give you a couple more ideas, I'll have an update on that next week so be sure to check back in.

As always, we love seeing what you all come up with. Be sure to tag photos of your craft, your prep, and your event with @etsy #craftparty so that we can all join the fun!

Madi Jane - Of course you can! Please don't hesitate to use those visuals, that's what they're there for.

MaryAnne - Please take a photo of the feature and send it my way, I'd love to see the write up - I'd also love to hear how that 1 craft per hour format works out. It's wonderful that you were able to find a sponsor that really fits with the "craft" part of Craft Party! So exciting!

Lanie - I love that you're going to be making one of Julie's weekly planners. I sit by her at the office and she truly is a crafty lady. I'll tell her you're making them at your party - would you mind taking some photos of what you make and tagging them with @etsy #craftparty so that we can see from afar?

I also wanted to add that I wrote up a kid-friendly (and adult friendly) paper DIY that was published to the Etsy blog here: http://etsy.me/paperbeadDIYforkids

I'll be adding a more visible thread about it in the next couple of days so that other's can get inspired by it if they're in a paper-craft rut.

Onwards,
Clare

This is so helpful! Thank you Clare! We are a bit lost when it comes to paper crafts as we deal mostly in felt. ;p Thank you for this inspiration ;)

Hi Clare,
I just asked this in the other thread and then saw this post. So is this the official Kaleidoscope: Paper Taking Shape craft that we have been waiting to find out about? I was hoping to make the craft that Etsy was creating but I am not sure it will be doable if I have to print 8x10 photos for everyone. Would appreciate some different ideas of creating with paper if this is the official craft. Thanks so much.

Hmm, I am confused. Is this one of the official crafts, and are there more on the way? Or just an example? I thought there would be more than one, and that we would be able to download the kit from the craft party page that says DIY Kit Coming May 5? This looks really cool, and I am excited, I just thought there would be more than one...like last year. :) Please let me know if I am missing something.

I second that, Kirsten.

We were considering making 1 or 2 crafts of our own and doing a couple of the ideas supplied by Etsy. I really would like to know what we can expect. If there is nothing else coming please let us know so we can prepare something else.

Tip for the suggest collage craft: you don't have to print out photos, you can also use photo pages from magazines or old calenders to make this collage.
( Since the Kaleidoscope theme was announced not a single piece of paper has left my house...;-) )

Hi guys, i found this page on pinterest by an etsy team.
https://www.pinterest.com/dorsetteam/etsy-craft-party-2015-inspiration-board/

Maybe it can give us all more ideas and inspirations on the crafts. I was a bit lost initially too. We will make the paper weaving and as a big community project, we might do the rolled papers collage. I think it is all about paper taking shape... a continuous change of colors and designs = kaledoscopic in nature.

Hi All,

Just a suggestion for getting some great 8 1/2 x 11 "photos." I stopped by my local Goodwill this morning and was able to pick up 3 different large coffee table type books full of awesome images. The books are all larger than the size we need (so plenty of image room) and each book was less than $3.

I'm going to practice tonight making some samples. This will be my first year hosting a party and I'm super excited.

If you are in the Pueblo, CO area, our party is here: https://www.etsy.com/local/craftparty/event/23752653075/handmade-pueblo-etsy-craft-party-june-5

We have a great recycle center where I live that has a spot for books that are free to take or drop off. I picked up a bag full of books for free to use at the craft party. And those we do not use will go back to the recycle center!

Hi everyone! thanks for all the great links! The EMHC Team is planning on doing one project every hour from noon til 5, so your ideas are inspirational! Don't know what to expect, but the state-wide community newspapers are going to do a feature, so we are excited! And our "major sponsor" is a local "thrift store for crafters" that will be our venue this year and they carries tons of paper-related products. It's going to make it so much easier!

Cordelia, best of luck down in Pueblo! You can be sure we will be thinking of you all!

Best of luck everyone!

At craft party 2010 the planner was one of my favorite crafts to make. I thought it would be a great idea to do a little throw back and use it this year. The comparison from 2010 to this year's craft party is.....well a bit insane but amazing lol.

I have been using the hash tag and @Etsy on twitter with pictures. Come June 6 I'll make sure to do more.
