As a follow-up to our recent move to a new Etsy Teams platform, we’ve updated our team category structure to make it easier for sellers to find teams that align with their interests.
If you’re searching for a team to join, you can choose from a fresh set of categories like Seller Workshops or Craft Fairs & Marketplaces.
For Team Captains, this is an opportunity to update your team settings to add categories that match your activities so interested members can find you.
How Etsy Teams search works
Team Captains craft thoughtful descriptions reflecting their team’s mission and purpose, who should join, and what members should expect out of participation.
The words captains use in their team name and description are important. The Etsy Teams search algorithm will surface teams based upon those keywords. Teams can also be filtered by other key factors such as location and category.
For Team Captains: If your team is local, make sure your location is reflected in your team settings and team name. If your team engages in activities like craft fairs, markets or workshops, clearly state that in your team description and add the relevant category. We encourage you to keep your name and description concise, and be sure to follow our team branding guidelines.
How the new category structure works
Categories are designed to help sellers find teams that align with their interests. Categories appear from a drop-down in the search bar when members are looking for a team to join:
For Team Captains: you can select up to three categories in your team settings. Choose categories that define your team and be sure to reinforce relevant activities in your team description so you stand out in search results.
Location, location, location
Location helps sellers find teams they can connect with in their neighborhood.
Teams are both global and local. Members use the search bar to filter teams by location to find communities with whom they can meet up and collaborate.
For Team Captains: If your team is defined by your geographic location, be sure to specify that in your settings so members can find you.
You can update your team’s information from the drop down tool on your team homepage. Go to Options => Team Information where you’ll find your Team Settings page:
We hope these changes make it easier for sellers to find great teams!
