Anyone thinking of moving from blogger to wordpress?

Hi,
I am wondering if people find wordpress better than blogger. Do you prefer to have a blogger site or wordpress site?

Thanks in advance,
Crystal

Re: Anyone thinking of moving from blogger to wordpress?

I get on ok with blogger and found it a lot more user friendly in terms of design options. I did start on Wordpress, which looks a little more professional, but for me I wanted the design options of blogger. Blogger does not always do what you tell it to, regularly has problems, but for a free publishing service it suits me for now, until I get my own website. I have met such wonderful people blogging.

Good luck and stop by and visit me at:

Re: Anyone thinking of moving from blogger to wordpress?

Hi - Started on wordpress and really liked it, but blogger is easier to use and faster to learn (to me). Haven't had any problems on either, but I have more setup options on blogger. Haven't closed the wordpress site, so you can check out both of mine

wordpress - www.lostlemonade.wordpress.com
blogger - www.lostlemonade101.blogspot.com

Hope it helps!

Re: Anyone thinking of moving from blogger to wordpress?

Blog content is what matters most, I think. After about a year my Wordpress blog starts being followed. I want it to be the central hub of my online activities.

I see it as where people should go first to know about my products and myself and then navigate to my Etsy shop (or other shops I have elsewhere). Centralizing the focus is just starting to give interesting stat results.

Wordpress has nice stats features too.

Things might change if Google totally integrates Blogger into its social network Google+. I think we are ready for a platform that offers what Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest and the others have. It's becoming a pain to update all those.

Until then Wordpress is my fav.

I'd love to switch to Wordpress, but until I become more computer savvy...blogger will be my choice.

Re: Anyone thinking of moving from blogger to wordpress?

I'm considering it right now. There are some things that blogger just won't do for me.
Specially organizing posts into tabs or pages.

I found this person who will do the move for you with some trouble shooting for a reasonable price: http://onestarrynight.com/price-list/

Can't quite decide what to do. I think big things are going to happen with Google+ and I like the blogger reader and Google Friends Connect better than an RSS feed.

Re: Anyone thinking of moving from blogger to wordpress?

Wordpress is a great tool for when you have purchased a domain. Blogger does very little for SEO as any relevancy goes back to blogger.com not your actual blog. the advantage of hosting your own wordpress blog is that it would all go directly to your site.

As handustry said, it is all about content, but if you want to get hits and make it vital to your business, wordpress is the way to go.

If you are a casual blogger, that uses it as a tool to write thoughts and share with friends, then I think using Blogger is sufficient.

Re: Anyone thinking of moving from blogger to wordpress?

I've got Worpress, because my computer savvy brother set it up for me. I'm still learning all the ins and outs of it, and I'd really like to integrate it with my business website, but I'm a couple steps away from being able to accomplish that myself. I'm working on it, though...

Re: Anyone thinking of moving from blogger to wordpress?

i started on blogger years ago and tried moving to wordpress...i didn't find it very user friendly and i like that it is easier to browse blogs on the blogger website...where as wordpress you have to know exactly who you are looking for in order to find something good.

Re: Anyone thinking of moving from blogger to wordpress?

Are you asking about switching to wordpress.org or wordpress.com? I've heard .org is great for those that want to make a professional website, but it does take some tech knowledge to set it up, plus you have to pay for hosting and a domain.

Switching to the .com version won't help your SEO anymore than blogger does without buying your own domain. Plus, they don't allow you to add advertisements to your free blog unless you have over 25,000+ views/month a month and then they still split your profits ~ http://en.support.wordpress.com/advertising/

Re: Anyone thinking of moving from blogger to wordpress?

I second what aquariann said. Having a self hosted Wordpress blog with your own domain name is the only way to go in my opinion.. and that is a whole lot more complicated than Blogger is. It's also VERY customizable. .

If you want traffic to your blog, you need to promote it. Doesn't matter who hosts it.

Re: Anyone thinking of moving from blogger to wordpress?

I stick with blogger now that I started there. i hope it keeps up with our needs.
I also have a domain and I'd soon like to host it on blogger, but for that I understand wordpress would be more user friendly. Anyone tried that?

Anyways's here's my blog for now: http://magdamagdadesignstudio.blogspot.com
