Shipping with DYK Post and stamps.com

I just wanted to share this information which I just found out today from Lisa Smithson https://www.etsy.com/shop/molgifts
who have been shipping with DYK Post and stamps.com (If you sign up, use promo code C-DV4X-3J6 at registration)
since June 29th. Super duper cheap then Canada post!
There is a drop off service Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in South Edm Common.
Lisa is also saying "If you send them an email via their website, Daniel will get back to you ASAP (even after business hours) and walk you through everything. Tell him I sent you :) (no referral thing, I've just been telling him I'm mentioning his name everywhere)"
I am going to give it a try. As I usually ship with Canada Post Tracked Packet™ - USA 250 gram 30x30x10cm to Florida for +$15.00
Lisa is saying with DYK Post less then $5.00

Re: Shipping with DYK Post and stamps.com

I've been using them for the past 2 months as well, and the service is amazing! I can drop off a package with them on Monday, and my customer will have it in their hands by Friday afternoon. Speedy & way cheaper than Canada Post (and it includes tracking too!)

Re: Shipping with DYK Post and stamps.com

Does the stamps.com membership cost per month? I thought I heard somewhere it was $15.99 a month.

Re: Shipping with DYK Post and stamps.com

Tracy - yes, it does cost 15.99/month, but you can try them out for a month for free, as long as you cancel before the month is up.
If you decide to continue past that month, they will charge the fee, but also give 2 coupons (for $10 each) of free postage, and a free postal scale (you have to pay the shipping). Not a bad deal.
For me, I need to send 2 packages a month to break even with Canada Post's tracked packet price (and that includes the usps shipping, insurance, dyk's fee and the stamps.com fee) - so it is definitely worth it for me, especially since it is so much faster.
Hope that helps!

Re: Shipping with DYK Post and stamps.com

Hi there,

I'm a newbie to Etsy and shipping so bare with me please!

I'm researching into DYK post before I open my shop and I have a few questions that I've emailed to their business (two separate email addressed) and haven't heard a peep. So I'm wary of that off the bat! So no one has had any issues going to their South Edmonton Common location at all? It says "COMING SOON" on DYK's website. Also generally what you are guys paying on top of the USPS price? Do you incur any duties or anything when sending over the border with them? Is it generally just a few dollars more than USPS for smaller items like say sending a dress that weighs a pound? Do they deal with the paperwork, like the declaration or do you? Any advice would be helpful!

Re: Shipping with DYK Post and stamps.com

Good news for those wanting to ship with DYK Post - they opened an actual store front office in Edmonton on the southside at 3263 Parsons Road as of yesterday!
No more having to meet in the McDonald's parking lot between 5 - 6pm.
Their office hours are from 10am - 6pm Monday to Friday and you can drop off any time within those hours. The truck will still leave every M, W, & F at 6pm, but we now have a much bigger window to drop off in, and a full service location with postage, pickup and drop off. They also have all USPS shipping boxes, bins, and mailing bags if you need them.
Woohoo!

(The North pickup location and time at St. Albert Trail is to remain unchanged at this time.)

Re: Shipping with DYK Post and stamps.com

Kelly - It's really weird that they haven't responded to your emails, because they are usually so quick with that! But, you can now go in and talk to them directly to see how it all works.
Packages under 4 lbs (I think that's the cutoff) cost $1.00 to use their service (you still have to pay for the USPS postage & insurance, if desired, on top of that), and there is a short shipping manifest to fill out that needs to list the country of origin, the recipient's address, the contents of the package and the value. They create a master manifest that gets presented to customs in the US. We do not incur any duties or other fees (unless you are having something brought back into Canada from the US). I hope that helps!

Re: Shipping with DYK Post and stamps.com

One more question for all of you and I'm done asking!! =)

Have any of you ever considering changing the country of where you ship from to say the US if you are using DYK Post? Do you any of you have more US customers than Canadian and would that be viable option for you? Get you more sales?

I've seen one seller based out of Manitoba that put that her store is in the states and she seems to be getting a lot of sales....anyone else ever thought about this at all?

Re: Shipping with DYK Post and stamps.com

The majority of my sales (probably 85%) are from the US, but I do have other countries as well, so I still list my shop as from Canada. I had thought about it, but I'm not sure if changing would equate to more sales - so I can't be of help there, sorry! Too bad we can't list both countries!

Re: Shipping with DYK Post and stamps.com

I haven't considered changing my shop to US even though the majority of my sales are in the US, but I think changing my shop to USD has had a positive impact on sales. I like showing that I'm a Canadian maker :) Also, sometimes when I'm looking at things to purchase on Etsy, I prefer to search by Canadian sellers.

Re: Shipping with DYK Post and stamps.com

I went on their website a few weeks ago to check this out. You pay them to take your package and get it over the border into a warehouse in Montana. You then have to pay customs brokerage and USPS shipping from the warehouse to final destination. Have I got this right?

Re: Shipping with DYK Post and stamps.com

They have not responded to my email, either. Do you have to do a certain volume of packages in order to use their service?

Re: Shipping with DYK Post and stamps.com

Pauline - yes, sort of ... you pay them (DYK) to take the package to the postal depot in Montana (that costs $1 per piece under 4lbs), and you have to pay for the usps shipping from Montana to it's destination, but there are no customs brokerage or other fees. Customs brokerage only applies to us for packages coming in to Canada.
Also - there is no minimum required amount of packages to use their service.
Hope that helps!

Re: Shipping with DYK Post and stamps.com

I have been using them for a few months. My shipping costs to the States have been drastically reduced. As you cannot use lettermail for anything other than documents I was having to ship small tracked packet. The cost was around $13 with Canada Post. I pay $5.40, including tax, for the same item shipped through DYK Post.

Re: Shipping with DYK Post and stamps.com

I don't understand how you advertise the US shipping while still being a Canadian shop? Do you just write out a disclaimer?

TIA
