July Team Challenge: Inspired by...

Our team challenge for July is a doll inspired by a book, movie, TV show, or real life current or historical character. Be sure to tell us who your doll is, or who it was inspired by.

Just a quick note on copyright. Please be careful of copyrighted characters. Laws differ from country to country, but most movies or TV shows or recent books (written by people still living) are protected by copyright laws in most places. There are some companies who will occasionally check places like Etsy to be sure that no one is using their characters without permission. If your doll is a real life historic character or from a book old enough to be public domain, you should be just fine. If in doubt, look up copyright laws on the net. I'm no expert, but don't want to lead anyone into possible trouble!

If you wish to join the challenge, just post a link here to your etsy listing showing your doll. If your doll is not currently for sale on Etsy, you can post it to our Facebook page here www.facebook.com/EtsyDollmakersTeam - be sure to mark it "team challenge" if you post it on facebook. Please post entries by the last day of this month.

At the beginning of next month, all entries that are listied on Etsy will be included in our team treasury, and all dolls entered will be shown on our facebook page.

You may post up to 4 dolls , however I may choose only 1-3 from each artist to include in our treasury depending on how many entries we receive.

Please be sure that your items meet the challenge theme. Any other dolls may be listed in our New Listings thread www.etsy.com/teams/8062/dollmakers/discuss/9376132/

You may post new dolls, dolls you already had made, or doll clothing items that fit into our theme.

Thanks to Cath Roy for the original theme suggestion.

Re: July Team Challenge: Inspired by...

Another note on my copyright note! I avoid copyrighted characters myself, but have had a couple requests for well known characters as custom orders. To protect myself, I listed one character, for example, as simply a custom order wizard, and did not use any character, book, or movie names in the listing. This will probably not work for all cases. Especially if your doll is an exact replica of a very recognizable character. Use your best judgment!

Re: July Team Challenge: Inspired by...

If you have an item that is not for sale on Etsy you can post it on our facebook page instead, and still be able to participate in the challenge. If it's not listed for sale, you are unlikely to have copyright problems.

If it is currently listed for sale you can still post it here. I just pointed out copy right issues as a bit of a disclaimer. Licensed characters are not forbidden from the challenge, I just want to make sure everyone understands that there are always possible risks involved with listing such items for sale. I am not policing our posts for copyright infringements! :)

I'm sorry, sometimes I can be confusing!

Love it. Ariel was always my favorite, because she was a red head, so now I guess I have two favorites :)

This is the Dowager Countess Violet Crawley from Downton Abbey. I'd post Mr. Carson, too, but I sold him.

Re: July Team Challenge: Inspired by...

Finally made it!

Narcissus is inspired by the Greek Mythology legend, of the boy who fell in love with his own image reflected in water. He then turned into a flower has he died.
