Hello! I'm new :)

HI there,
I'm new to this team. I've enjoyed reading through the discussions and look forward to contributing and also asking questions. I love doll making. I find it very calming..I just wish my work space reflected that sense of calm. It's a mess! :)

Re: Hello! I'm new :)

I know about messes. I started out so organized but got too carried away buying more fabric than I can possibly use. I'm a fabriholic.

Re: Hello! I'm new :)

Me too. My poor husband is very tolerant. Thankfully I have my own room to contain my mess. Although my mess does tend to spill over to other areas on occasion!

Re: Hello! I'm new :)

Hi everyone, I'm new to the team as well! Wow, looking at the other postings it's great to see all the different types of dolls that are out there and the amazing talent displayed. Took me a while to find a team where my dolls would fit in--I'm glad to be here!

HI,

Your dolls are adorable. Boy do I know about messes. I never seem to have things organized well but I keep trying. I have now taken over two bedrooms. Thank goodness the kids have moved out.

Re: Hello! I'm new :)

Iv started using stumble upon and just setting it to search craft or crafting it will bring up a lot of cute and space saving organizing ideas.... It really helped me a lot.

Re: Hello! I'm new :)

I just joined today and was so excited to find others that enjoy making dolls. I have always tried to be organized with my supplies but right now I cannot find my pinkingshears and it is driving me crazy. We moved from Illinois to St. Croix which has no craft/material outlets. I took all my supplies with me in 30 hugh rubbermaid tubs. This included 2,500 yards of material that I had catalogued as to which tub it was in. Five years later we moved it all back to Illinois with probably more since every time I came back I brought empty suitcases to stock up on things "I had to have."

Re: Hello! I'm new :)

Welcome to the team!
I think doll makers and makers of other crafts tend to develop an addiction! I have enough suppllies to keep sewing untill the day I die and not run out. But I to can't help but find that one more thing "I have to have" as you so rightly put it! Think any of us will end up on a special doll makers episode of Hoarders? ;)

Re: Hello! I'm new :)

Oh Ann,

I thought I was bad but 2500 yards wow. I tried to talk my husband into letting me buy a fabric shop that was going out of business - the entire shop but we had to move it and I did not have anywhere to store the material. It drove me nuts not to be able to buy it.

I am hoping to get organized enough to get my dolls going again. I have a large order in the fall for rag dolls and I have not even started organizing. Too hot.

Re: Hello! I'm new :)

I just love doing so many different things that I just kept buying material - I made my clothes, quilted, crochet strips of material, and of course dolls. I cut a small square of each material, measured the yardage and had a page for each tub with the sample squares. Now I just look through the book and know where to find the material. When we moved back to Illinois, we bought an old farm house that was built in 1860. I actually use a large closet with two windows for my sewing room. There is a door leading off of it to a large enclosed upstair porch where I am able to store all my tubs and other supplies. I love the house but there are only two of us and there is a lot of room - 4600 sq ft. We can actually lose each other at times..... I have made curtains for 75 windows.

I know what you mean about the heat. I enjoy sewing more in the winter. Too much outside work to do and it is hard to come in and get started on sewing.

Love Etsy though. It has so many great crafters and I love seeing what everyone is making.

Re: Hello! I'm new :)

I'm a fabriholic too! I've been embarrassed about having bought so much, but now I feel better.
That organizing system sounds great.

Re: Hello! I'm new :)

It is like a comfort blanket to know it is there in case I need it. My problem is that I often go out and buy new rather than use the material I already have. I like making the dolls because it is easy to use my material on their dresses, etc. If I start a quilt, I am more likely to go out and buy all new so that it fits together. I knew there were others out there that have this "wonderful" problem. I biggest disapointment is that my daughter and granddaughter have no interest in doing sewing of any kind or crafts. When my mother passed away I finished all of her projects and gave them to family members to remember her by. My goal is to stay alive until I finish all of my projects which will make me about 150 years old.
